If blizzard designed and built a “new” WoW game with all of the fundamentals of vanilla wow (some major ones listed below) but with entirely new zones, quests, races, items, dungeons, and events (but keeping classes, stats/gearing the same) would you play?
- the incredible time sink of vanilla
- the “difficulty” (dying 100 times by level 30, running back to your corpse, etc)
- no flying
- no LFG
- emphasis on group making/socialization
It would everything that vanilla wow is, but the world must be discovered again and nobody is familiar with anything but the classes and stats/gearing.
Would you play?
Absolutely. Assuming they don’t try to include some kind of hyper realism to acquire graphics and get away from the fun, “kooky”, portions of the game. Like gnomes for instance.
I think keeping it cartoony allows for more freedom within the game.
Additionally over designed environments and gear and graphics are not needed to make a good game.

Depending. If the raiding was slow and basic as the first few expansions then no cause they would be boring but if they were fast paced and as hard as current mythic raids then yeah count me in
Lol Yeah almost no one would play this I also kind of think it’s funny you left out something extremely important class balancing.
The reality is most people just don’t like this type of game it’s very niche concept We saw what #NoChange Brought.
I think that should be proof enough

you died 100 times by lvl 30?!??!?! how?
Thing is, the list you described is not “What vanilla wow is”. That’s the meme list of things that supposedly made Vanilla WoW great.
What made Vanilla WoW actually great was the supportive and cooperative community, the active players who were exploring the world instead of just passing through it, and the game development company that took the time to put so many things into the game that the average player could look and never even find half of them.
That won’t happen again, because the people who made up that community will not be making up any new community as the primary driver of behaviour, any more, and the game company that put that much time into the game’s cohesive world building… no longer exists.

If Classic is still going probably not, I’d rather not split my time with multiple MMO’s.
This.
Unfortunately, the community isn’t what it was back then. Back then, the online gaming community had a lot less selection and was still greatly comprised of people who had grown up playing pencil & paper D&D, early console RPGS, and such. As such, the players back then still appreciated RPG elements, such as exploring the world, slowly working your character(s) up, and actually requiring things like reagents for spells or ammo for ranged weapons, or not actually insta-learning skills upon level up.
These days it’s all about instant (and usually undeserved) gratification with no real time investment or effort.
Just the fact that the second response to this topic is already stating “raids! raids!” is a huge sign that most of the potential player-base wouldn’t be interested in exploring a new world, and would just want to rush to endgame content to “beat the game.”

They don’t have to build a new game.
They just have to create new content as if never released expansions.
So they could use wrath or classic as the base game. Create a new raid after ICC or Naxx, and there you have it.
Vanilla isn’t a time sink. You must not have played classic 2019 if you thought it was.s Play retail if you want a time sink.
Blizz still has trouble implementing patches to the game (see the fiasco of the PTR vendor put into SoM) and you think they can just plug and play brand spanking new content?
No way. The original wow was fun for sure. It was even fun the 2nd time. But now having experienced better ways of doing things i dont see any reason to go backwards.
For example. There is no excuse for a modern day mmo to not have an automatic group finder for running dungeon content. I domt care if it auto ports you there or you have to walk. But the qol improvement vs the wasted time without is a deal breaker to me. I have skipped even trying new mmos because i first looked to see if they had lfd tool. No tool and i dont waste my time. Exact reason i wont be playing wotlk this time around.
Other things like dual spec are similar , but there are options to those. Like if you could just tank adequately by changing stance instead of respeccing. Basically, anything that wastes time in a game for the sake of wasting time. I would not wast my time playing.
Graphics are also in my list. No reason at all to play a new game with old graphics. That is just stupid.
