Would you be interested in having the Shendralar as an allied race?

Just a reminder that I posted this before we even knew more character customization options were coming.

So who’s for Shen’dralar customization options for Night Elves?

———

This is directed at the people who were upset at the Nightborne going Horde.

The Shendralar are the Highborne who hid in Dire Maul and sucked a demon’s fel energies for many, many years. (So basically, a mix of Blood Elves and Nightborne lol).

Currently, their in-game model is exactly the same as Night Elves, although it’s clear they should look different. (Sucking fel energies for many years does not change you? But crossing the ocean suddenly makes you a sexy badass like Blood Elves? Right…).

Anyway, these guys, in contrast with the Nightborne, joined their Night Elf fellows during Cataclysm and are since then teaching arcane magic to Night Elves (that’s why we can create a Night Elf Mage).

I was wondering, however… how many of you would like them to be developed as an allied race with a different model/appearance from Night Elves?

The lore is there - all we need is Blizz to know if we’d like them or not.

I personally would, and I think it would be fair for Night Elf players to play an Alliance allied race based on the Night Elf model.

Likewise, Horde players could get any Blood Elf allied race (San’layn? Dark Rangers? Whatever).

Please let me know what you think!

Oh and please try to save your “No more elvesSsSS”, “this ain’t World of Elfcraftttt” and instead elaborate a bit on why you think they shouldn’t be made an allied race.

I think we have too many elf tribes as is, so I would object to them.

Now, conversely if they wanted to make these other elves a customized feature of existing Elves, I would have no problem w/ that.

We have Blood Elves, Night Elves, Nighborne, Void Elves. I would enjoy seeing unique races.

I think it’s kind of lame that first Horde gets the corrupted version of High Elves (that were historically Alliance) in the Blood Elves, and then gets the pumped up version of Shen’dralar that are also Alliance (they joined in Cataclysm) in the Nightborne.

I’m team, no more Elves OP. I’d rather have this and the other Elf skin options/ideas/requests become unlockable customizations similar to the Night Warrior.

We don’t need ghost elves. You want undead elves, death knights are here for you.

Thank you both for elaborating

Yes I do agree adding elf allied races right now would be too much. But perhaps in the future, after having new unique races developed, this could be a nice addition.

Or as Stompypotato says (lol nice name), make them a customization option for Night Elves (the same can be applied with the other popular options now that I think about it, like Wildhammer, San’layn, High Elves, Dark Rangers, etc.).

Wh… what? You’re talking about Farondis’ elves, I’m talking about the Shendralar - totally different elves. You didn’t even read my post.

The elves in dire maul are ghosts too are they not?

Yes, and the ones that survived could be argued as the Night Elf mages that are currently playable.

I don’t remember right now if all of them are ghosts. Anyway, the living Shendralar who left Dire Maul are currently living among other Night Elves. What happened to them after the fall of Darnassus? Who knows.

Actually, Night Elf Mages are normal Night Elves who were taught by the Shendralar. They’re not Shendralar per se.

The Highborne Shen’dralar sorcerers from Dire Maul eventually settled in Darnassus. Many night elves were wary of their guests as they dredged up painful memories from the past. The Highborne in particular were treated with suspicion and even open hostility.[11] They began training new night elf mages. Because their expulsion from night elf society after the War of the Ancients was due to their use of arcane magic, the blood elves were outraged to hear that the kaldorei had welcomed the Highborne back and were tolerating the practice of arcane magic again. After witnessing the “rookie” mistakes made by the new kaldorei magi, however, the blood elves are anxiously awaiting whatever mess the kaldorei are going to put themselves in. What’s more, some sin’dorei have been able to exploit the kaldorei’s inexperience in order to rout Alliance forces, as seen in the “ [Amberwind’s Journal]” quest series in Azshara.[12]

Over the next years, Mordent and his Highborne followers continued to serve the Darnassian night elves and the Alliance, with Mordent surviving an assassination attempt in Darnassus[13] and encountering the Horde in Blackfathom Deeps following the Burning of Teldrassil,[14] as well as participating in the Battle for Darkshore.

How do you think night elves got mages in cata? The shendralar…

Yup, that’s exactly what I said: playable Night Elf Mages are Darnassus Night Elves, not Shendralar Night Elves.

Btw thank you for the quote! I didn’t realize the Shendralar survived the Burning of Teldrassil. That’s nice!

There is no physical difference between the two.

I think the only difference they have is that Shen’dralar Night Elves could have blonde hair, could be wrong.

Not now, no, which is lore-breaking, considering the Shendralar have been sucking fel energies directly from a demon for many years.

Why would I want another NE race added? It is fine that they have just been merged back into NE culture and granted the race access to mages. There honestly isn’t a good enough reason to make them their own allied race. I wish Blizzard would use the allied race system to introduce races that typically might not seem like a good fit at first glance. A race that we ally ourselves with to over come a current challenge, that then becomes the basis for them to discover common grounds after the threat has been defeated.

No more elves. Four races is enough.

They’re not all ghosts. And the Shen’dralar that are left probably got out. There weren’t many left to begin with. And no, they don’t need an AR. They’re already part of the Nelf population. That was established pretty well back in Cata.

Rather, I’d like to see race-exclusive class-exclusive customization options. Add slight demon taint as an option for NE mages since they were supposed to be what bought the Shen’dralar their place in modern NE society.

By that same measure gold eyes should’ve been exclusive to BE priests and paladins.
