Would WOW 2 Be Best Accepted like Path of Exile 2?

In that case WOW 2 would just be an extension of the current game. Old world would be completely redone, “legacy” servers for those who want to continue playing their character, new game engine, new map, modern mechanics, etc.

Burning Crusade was WoW 2. WotLK was WoW 3. We’re currently playing WoW 9.

As it has been stated before:

  1. MMOs are a fading genre.
  2. Expensive
  3. Apart from the art and music team, I cannot see it made to surpass current WoW.
  4. It would definitely be P2W
  5. Probably 50% or more mobile and definitely console oriented first.

I wouldn’t play it. It’s not time investment in these toons, it’s just the new wave design philosophy and target audience

I doubt Blizzard has the talent to construct a mmorpg with the short handed staff.

They’re more interested in running everything on maintenance mode or skeleton crew status to make cut backs.

I think WOW should do something similar to what PSO2 is doing called new genesis. It’s the same game just upgraded graphics. I think we will see a graphics overhaul in the next few years if world of Warcraft is still doing very good. If you look at the reports, it’s one of blizzards top grossing games and is breaking records with every new expansion, so it’s just plain wrong to say it’s a dying genre. Wow is more popular now than ever and the game will be around for a very long time.

I’m sure blizzard has something in mind and hopefully they will remaster the game in some way with something similar to the overwatch engine. That would be truly amazing. They have the resources and player base to support the game so it’s really just a matter of time IMO.

I doubt we would ever see a WoW 2. With the addition of the Classic servers (which isn’t much like Vanilla actually was) they can’t split the base up much more and sustain a healthy pop.

Wows graphics are fine because they are stylised they aren’t trying to be real. The only reason they need a new engine is to allow better optimisation/pyshics/ that kinda thing.

That’s not how expansions work. Elder Scrolls Oblivion Shivering Isles isn’t Elder Scrolls 5 and that doesn’t make Skyrim part 6.

Each WoW expansion is an entire new chapter of lore, and drastically changes many of the fundamental elements from the expansion before it. Shivering Isles (to my knowledge) didn’t change the fundamental aspects of Oblivion, it was just some bonus material. Same as Operation Anchorage or The Pitt for Fallout 3 because I’m more familiar with those.

Oblivion and Skyrim are essentially the same game, you’re just buying the next chapter of the story and some changed, added or removed gameplay aspects. And better graphics. Same as a WoW “expansion”.

How did going for a “2” work for destiny?

That argument could maybe be made for Cataclysm. Because it literally erased the original game and replaced it with its own content. However other expansions don’t stand on their own. They require the core game to build off of. Hence why they are expansions and not sequel titles.

WoW2 will be released exclusively on PC2

Apparently it got better after they split from activision, but the last expac was lacking.

On topic: mmo sequels rarely succeed, people don’t want to leave their crap behind to experience new, and many don’t want a more… realistic look, to wow.

Everquest has 27 expansions. Everquest 2 also exists. Which number in the series is Everquest 2 because it came out years and years after Everquest saw a dozen or so expansions?

No. Clean break, in fact no Blizzard involvement at all.

We’ve been getting what is effectively a “new game engine” with almost every expansion.

No, Wow would not be better in any way if it was remade in Unreal Engine.

I find the EQ/EQ2 thing funny, it’s a prime example of sequels not working lol.

Everyone still plays EQ1 and the company knows that, that’s why they still release things for it.

I agree with this. I don’t think current Blizzard could make a good MMO from scratch.

If they made WoW 2 be Breath of the Wild type of adventure game, it would probably do well. MMOs are a dying breed and have way too much overhead to deal with.
Breath of Azeroth.

I’d take a dev team 2.

Put the current team on Hearthstone and bring in Developers 2: Electric Boogaloo…now with imagination and talent!
