Rune of Power is a dps increase over Flow. If they removed Rune of Power and moved some numbers around to compensate i feel like mage would automatically feel better to play. Even if they removed flow and rune of power and replaced it with a more interesting less awful passive i think mage would be in a better place.
Also if they Merged radiant spark with Touch of the Magi (made TOM give damage increasing stacks and a 30 second cd) i feel like radiant spark would feel better to use.
I don’t play RoP, never have and I have only seen universal distain for it from the community and it boggles my mind why they insisted on keeping it as they converted to talents. I am hopeful that the current changes were more about reestablishing talents as a mechanism, and we see tweaks/additions/changes in the future.
Yes. I avoided it like the plague but now I am forced to play it or else my DPS will simply just be too low for me to participate in guild content.
The way they’ve built mages means that your raid has to coordinate around them. This is partially the reason why mages in high end raiding guilds do SO MUCH more damage than their less skilled counterparts. Of course skill is a factor, but they also have a raid that is helping their mages set up these literal scripted rotations.
As a frost mage thankfully RoP isn’t as required as the other specs. I use incanters flow and still get 85-90 on my parses currently. I may mix it in eventually when I get more comfortable with the fights.
I don’t really mind it anymore since I’m pretty much numb to it but I don’t particularly like it. I think more than the positional requirement that so many people hate, the 40% extra damage is what should be looked at instead since that’s way too much and at times comparable or better than some major spec cooldowns except Mage’s baseline damage is neutered to compensate for it.
Even 30% would make it still worth going, if flow went to 30% and thry kept it the same it might be better… or maybe gave flow like built in crit, vers, haste stacking with sp
I know part of it is that in all my time playing WoW, I’ve never been able to truly break my habit of “saving my big cooldowns in case I need them later” unless I’m tunneling into a boss, but I generally dislike the feast-and-famine feeling that I think RoP’s been encouraging ever since its redesign into a burst cooldown you stack with others.
To be honest, I don’t even really like Incanter’s Flow either; the buff oscillation annoys me. But its only functional reason for existing is to be “not Rune of Power” so I wouldn’t cry if that got axed alongside it.
Removing Rune of Power and Incanter’s Flow would make the class better. Until level 100 during Mists of Pandaria, mages felt really good to play and weren’t mobility limited. Those level 100 talents made it so that all of our damage is weaker, and we have to rely on those talents to be on par with other damage classes. I believe the damage should be baked into the spells, and those talents should be removed.
Shouldnt the goal be making the class as fun as possible. Fun should override unique damage profile. If its not fun it should be changed, just my opinion anyway as a mage player since wotlk
It’s an OP talent, and it shouldn’t be the ONLY way to play the class. It needs to be nerfed to the point that it actually feels like a talent CHOICE.
Or, removed… like Double Tap, because it forces a very specific gameplay. Mind you, MM hunters actually love DT…
it is though. If you’ve played ffxiv raids and dungeons you would see how much WoW borrows in terms of boss mechanics. Which FF borrowed from wrath and expanded since.
Bloomsday is a very well known troll from the arena forums and I think the only reason he stopped posting there is because he got muted by 99% of posters there so now he is trying it here lmao. Do not feed him
