Honestly, though, if they want to put in a button called “skip the RP in my RPG” so those people can just jump to 60 and do whatever it is they care about I’m fine with it. It would mean less Negative Nancies and Debbie Downers around here.
Personally, I really enjoy the more story based questing. It feels epic and a lot more engaging than “kill 20 of these” “collect 15 of those” for hours on end. If others don’t share that opinion, it’s no skin off my nose.
And if I could skip the entire story which is so cliche at this point I already know what is going to happen I would be level 60 and getting geared for raiding.
I agree. However I tell myself to be patient and soak it in a bit. This xpac will last 2 yearsish. May as well stop and smell the roses a little. It’s working so far. But it is a bit slow moving.
The first time or two in a raid/instance? Sure, I will watch the RP stuff… the 50th time? No… I do not want to stand there for three minutes staring at you Kael… just drop the mount already and I will stop killing you every week.
I remember following Dadghar through a bunch of stuff at the portal, with a few kills here and there.
In Legion we got to follow him more til we got Dalaran to a new spot, then it was following the old spacegoat around Argus.
BfA – cutscene on a ship, land in Zandalar, follow the troll lady up to the pyramid, more cutscenes. We finally got to choose a place to start, and got a cutscene when we got there.
This is kinda what MMORPGs do, and have done, since they went visual with Ultima, Everquest, etc.
Honestly, that mentality nearly destroyed one of my favorite MMORPGs. It came out, it was heavily story based, and yet a large number of people with a “get to max level asap so I can do end game” mentality exploited a bug to get to max level in less than 3 days. Well, the developers had not intended for anyone to actually get to max level actually doing the story and so these people that jumped to 50 a good month before it was intended immediately complained that the game has no end game content, and they quit in droves. “This game has no content!” and yet they skipped a month’s worth of content. The game still exists and it’s fun, but… I have to wonder if the common complaints of the remaining players would be different had it not had that initial annoyance of the “we only care about end game raids, screw story” crowd hadn’t ruined it. The initial game had 8 distinct but intertwining stories for each class, fully voiced interactive cutscenes… but every expansions since has been a single story regardless of your class. Sure you still make your choices, but it’s still just one story when it used to be 8.
I love the RP elements but I will also admit: the thought of doing the maw intro again is annoying.
There is so much un-skippable rp that I only need to see once to get. I hope they add a “you’ve told me this before” option when Jaina explains the maw or for the ice crown stuff where i have to carry a piece of the helm at .00000001% move speed.
Otherwise I’m fine with the story elements I’ve been getting so far. Its just those two that make me groan.
Yeah because clicking on 15 people trying to “inspire” them while half end up attacking you is so much better especially right after “bathing” in water and walking with an NPC for 5 minutes with no way to skip…Ummhmm.
