Would More Tanks & Healers Solve Most Problems with M+?

The total number of keys running at any one time is strictly gated by number of tanks and healers available. That means that at any given time, half the dps will be languishing in the group-finder io beauty contest.

More keys running = more players playing = more players progressing, more getting loot, and more getting better as players.

I already tank 16x 10s every week to fill vaults on two co-mains; I am not likely to tank more. What could Blizz do to encourage more players to embrace these underserved roles?

nope they aren’t doing them bc it ain’t fun

Purely reward based:

  • increase gold drop from end of dungeon chest for tanks and healers. 300 gold would be nice as it would cover repairs.
  • give tanks and healers 1 guaranteed augment rune in EoD chest

I do them and enjoy them but I am one plebeian tank. There aren’t enough of me to meet the demand.

Not sure it would solve anything to be honest. Even if you had 1 tank and 1 healer for every 3 dps at all times with no overflow, which is an impossible ratio to maintain anyway.

Make tanks and healers more needed in raids, and you solve this somewhat.

And pvp too (but who does that? lol.)

PVP does have a shortage of healers in solo shuffle due to how it’s designed.

Healers play vs healers.

DPS don’t play vs dps.

Yes they should make healers and tanks better.

Personally, they need to give tanks way more damage. Damage is fun for most people else they wouldn’t play dps and it would act as a reward to having to do more stuff.

Healers should get simplified more, I think having hard healing checks make sense but I don’t feel healers are easy to understand when most of their spell simply do not heal much anymore. Healers need a hard pruning, a big simplification to make it in my opinion where mana becomes most of the problem like it was before. I feel my problem with healers is simply that there are too many terrible ones, might be a bias.

Improved rewards might help, but not much.

Being a healer or tank in a PuG is generally not a fun experience.

Cause it’s easy for healers to get carried.

Like there’s always an easier solution than improving your own gameplay. (Cause the most obvious factor could be someone missing an interrupt.)

Right now? M+ is cataclysmic. I mean, it’s about to “explode” with extremely little to no actual impact on anyone else at all.

It needs a hero.
Keep holding out for a hero till the end of the night.
They’ve got to be Pure and they’ve got to be sure
and they’ve got to fight for the light.

oooo OOOO oooo OOOO
OOO ooooo OOO ooooo
(that’s one part harmonized, not two lines. Now go back and re read it till you get it right)

Yes but that gameplay I feel is a bit too complicated and doesn’t feel rewarding, at least to me. When you have much more stress and job than dps players.

To make healing feel rewarding, I’d say you would need to prune defensives from other players. But that probably makes it unengaging for those players.

For healing to be fun, people need to be able to die because of me.

But then, we also have healers that seemingly want to have no impact, so they can also watch Netflix.

I think nerfing dps healing is a good start. Ret paladins or Shadow priests.
Some defensives should probably be nerf in term of % or cd, I don’t think immunities should have short cds, I think it could make sense to make full immunities back to 3 or even 5min.

So you feel healing is too easy?

Yes, the most liked feature of M+ is the rewards.

Relying on someone else to use a defensive doesn’t make healing hard. It makes it annoying.

Although, as someone pointed out to me in one run, I could’ve mitigated like half of the deaths in a run.

While I can agree, ive pugged from 0 to 2600+ on my brewmaster.
Id say that most like 85% of my runs have either been dead silent or pretty chill.

Mechabically though, most bosses are super bland and boring to tank.

  • stand still and use a defensive
  • move from frontals and circles
  • try not to fall asleep while you stand still
The only boss that is not either if those is the butterfly in Mists. You have to inturrupt something and thats different

Do you feel healers having to heal at all is too hard?
Isn’t that what they signup for?

I’m not saying to make it harder but to make it easier to do their job and that means also balancing the game so damage is easier to expect.

Dps having so many strong cooldowns means that the game needs to hit you harder, so when you don’t have a defensive the swing to heal is much more bigger if defensives and self-healing is as strong.

We have the same outcome for two different problems:

  1. people stand in mechanics, and they died. (Like one shots.)

  2. People died because of lack of healing.

It’s not always clear on players which is which too. Or is it something that can be bruteforced through as opposed to literally can’t?

I find it more engaging than you describe, but also find pathing and how to combine trash pulls to often be more fun than the bosses.
