I love the idea of Hero talents coming in TWW! But I do also hope to see talent trees expanded for all 3 Evoker specs sometime in the future. Not in terms of more talent points, but instead more talents to choose from.
Understandably, Evoker is a new class that hasn’t had multiple years of iteration to draw from. But as expansions go on, it would be great to find more build diversity and talent options- especially in the Devastation specialization tree. Currently, there are too many talents that are essential to each spec, talents that make a lot more sense being baseline passives instead of providing an “illusion of choice” by being in the talent tree. If you add ontop of that a lack of actual talent choices, you’ll find that build variety is very very sparse when it comes to Evoker specializations.
Perhaps we could see the existing Dragonflight Season 1-3 tier sets make an appearance on Evoker talent trees come TWW. Would add some much needed variety.
It’s always cool to have a good variety of choice so I wouldn’t be opposed to this. I do think that the more complex the base talent tree becomes, the more difficult it is to keep track of the interractions with the different hero talents, tier bonuses and keep everything reasonably well tuned.
Their intention is to keep the talent trees ever-green, and they can’t keep expanding it forever. They could, on the other hand, make more varieties of the hero talents.
Bringing new varieties of hero talents would allow them to build in past tier set bonuses that people enjoyed, as you suggested, and it would be easier to maintain balance with fewer potential interactions to worry about. It would also avoid power creep and maintain the choice of previous hero talent options should players prefer them.
It’s not so much about needing new/more talents.
It’s about making the talents we currently have more competitive with the meta builds.
If a left side/firestorm build were only 10% behind in single target (random number for the sake of argument), and they made firestorm work like ravager or Starfall (again random suggestions, just talking about giving it some QoL), MUCH more builds would open up.
As it stands now, you just lose way too much single target for barely more (sometimes less) aoe DPS.
We have lots of potentially attractive options, but tuning and design are holding them back from being real choices.
Hero trees that align with all 6 aspects feels like something that’s bound to come (there’s red/bronze/black already) since I don’t think hero talents are meant to be everything there ever is.
