Would it hurt the game too much if any race could be ALMOST any class?

Excluding heroic classes that have a background, I don’t see why an Orc cannot be a Paladin, for example. You’re going to tell me that in a thousand years Azeroth, not a single baby orc was found and adopted by a paladin and learned the light way? And so on… This could be easily doable, like why not? Just design more totems for the shamans and its all fixed.

It would dilute the identity of many classes and damage the foundational lore in which the game/universe is built upon. Very damaging to any fantasy setting.

Seeing OP’s complete lack of knowledge on the origins and history of Orcs, I dont think they actually have the fantasy setting in mind at all.

From a gameplay perspective though, I can see most race/class restrictions being lifted in the future.

The Horde would look more like Barbie and the Magical Castle than ever while the Alliance would not be too bad despite Void beings using the light.

Aside from that, might harm the flavor of races and their story, though. While is not bad, I feel something special in WoW than other MMOS where your race don’t matter and everyone starts on the same place.

I still recall when I started to play, how amazed I was and how big the world felt with how much care every race had, with their own starting zones, their own culture, etc. The direction it has now… Does not look very good.

You are right, but I see Orcs can be priests, so they don’t have a problem with holy powers i guess.

A single one? Sure.

Enough to be statistically significant for the culture of that given race? Nah.

Priests encompass a wide range of cultures and kinda get forced into “Light and Shadow” for gameplay purposes, because making a spec for every race’s theme would be too much work apparently.

Seems like a more passive approach than Yrel’s.

A priest uses beliefs prayers in the light

A paladin is infused with it to extreme

Priests and paladins are not the same thing and the game shows on many occasions just how different they are. Priests occupy very different roles in this setting. Now viewing this with strictly gameplay in mind, you’re not wrong.

It’s blizzard’s game to do what they want and I’ve heard a few people wanting to have paladin available for orcs. It may happen, it’ll be weird but then again Blizz has retconed or modified lore as they see fit many times in the past.

I think, in general, it would be good for the game to let more people play more roles on a single character.

In my opinion, Druid and Pally are too race-limited. Especially on Horde. If you don’t want to be a Tauren or Troll you’re out of luck.

So whatever they can do to help this out I will support. But it doesn’t necessarily mean they need to make more Druid or Pally races.

They could also add specs to classes that only perform 2 roles. That would give us more hybrids too.

Evoker tank, shaman tank, dk healer, warrior healer, DH healer, priest tank

Some of these seem super off the wall but I am for more people playing more roles no matter what.

You already know it’s going to lead to Blood Elf Everything.

They’ve been the most popular race ever since their inception, and that’s not changing.

Blood Elf Druids, as far as the eye can see.

Yup, that’s bound to happen for sure.

Exactly, I don’t care if everyone wants to be a blood elf, but having some diversity is nice.

25 man raid. Blood Elf Druids and Shamans. All of them.

Right now blood elves are only restricted from shaman and druid, they would benefit the least from this.

I remember playing BE because of the silence racial when I was a teenager, but nowadays I rather pick 100% based on the looking appeal.

Yes.

I can’t imagine gnomes carrying my big enhancement maces. They are small and weak. Heh

In all seriousness, yes, I think that lifting things like class restrictions and armor category mog restrictions does more harm than good. Holding Blizz to the standard that they should design good new races and great mogs for each category will do more good and less harm than lifting restrictions.

I’m not interested in playing World of Elfcraft with everyone running around as a Blood or Void elf mogged into a look that doesn’t fit their class at all. Seems dumb.

I am usually vehemently against race/class locks in most games, but WoW is different from your average KR cash-grab T&A MMO in that there are actual lore reasons for why some races cannot be some classes. When you bring lore into the mix - sensical lore, at that - I am a bit more lenient with locks.

That said, the classes that don’t make sense to lock should be opened up. Races that are class-locked, as well (coughdracthyrcough) should also be able to be other classes that they have been shown as in-game or could feasibly be/become.

But stuff like DHs and shamans would not make sense being available to every single race, DHs even more so than shamans. Some races, as well, have lore reasons why they aren’t able to be some classes - like Blood Elves, for instance.

I think it’s possible to loosen restrictions where they are needed or make sense, while keeping restrictions that are there for sensical lore reasons.

This game drives on story/narrative and if their are races that want to be that specific class then they would need a story for it.

Gameplay wise, no, it doesn’t matter. but lore wise it does. I know most wow players don’t care about the lore, or barely care, and that’s why blizz is already doing what you’ve suggested. it will just take time to get all the animations and artwork done.
