Would it be ok to add a Pact or Faith System for the Classes?

Like I mention, we know that DK have their Rune Forge System integrated with their Class… that grants them different types of abilities.
Do you think that adding a similar system but to Warlocks in the form of Pacts with other Demonic or more powerful Entities and Priest or Paladin in the form of Faith/blessings (Elune, Loa, Death, Life, Light, Void etc) would be a good idea?

I want to discuses this from a Lore and Story (or speculation) perspective from what you the lore masters know of these classes, pro and cons and if it should just be cosmetic or change at least the damage type of depending of what entity the bargains are made, or who your Class draws faith or the type of Blessing given as a Paladins connection to that Cosmic Force or Entity.

If you like to add how this could impact or the technicalities of any of the Classes impacted by this, or the already difficult to balance existing specs… its also welcome.

I was discussing it with friends but wanted to see how it impacted the Lore first…by discussing it within the Story Forums.

Thank you if you take the time to read or add your inmput!

As long as Warriors need nothing more than to be really gd angry and not skip leg day to take on cosmic entities and gods, I’m alright

lol thanx for reply, but after a lengthy fun discussion with my friends… I think Classes of the WoW Universe should stay simple…adding a system like DK Rune Forge, might further make it even harder to balance… even in our pen and paper home made version.

I’m down for having a similar system to Runeforging for the other classes, but for the sake of balance they should be as cosmetic as possible with little to no effects on the damage/duration of spells, etcetera.

I’d be down certain classes being able to do unique things. Like giving hunters the option to add cosmetic armor to their pets and such.

If you’re just asking for roleplay flavor, fine. You can go ahead and add that for yourself, I’m sure there are roleplay addons that you can add flavor details to your presentation.

No one however wants a class change that does nothing but add complexities solely for flavor that the majority of the player base have zero interest in.

Yeah it might work for games like D&D but WoW I think it be a nightmare… I agree it should be cosmetic… as if it were anything other than that if be like the borrow power system and to that I say no thank you! :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Anything that enables more specific, accurate class characterization and class identity would be welcome, be it through new specs or a brand new system like this one

I am legit tired of Druid enforcing Kaldorei aesthetics and philosophies on the player when druidism may mean wildly different things depending on the culture

Agreed. Would be nice to see more Drust/Thornspeaker-themed aesthetics for Kul Tiran Druids, for instance.

I still pray for the day Blizz sees the light and do Class-Race aesthetics/effects for some classes (specially Priest/Paladin) it would make the existence of controversial class-race combinations (like Paladin Night Elf with light effects) much better.

Take it from a Two-Handed Frost DK: You absolutely do not want this to happen.

I haven’t played the class long enough to understand the significance.

Frost spec is designed around dual wielding and has been for a long time now. Use a two handed weapon and you’re basically nerfing yourself for no reason

Even with the new DF talent tree, you’re kind of guided to dual wield side of the tree

Truth, I had thought that that changed with the newer specs, but like I said I’m not strong with the class.

I could see something like the Zandalari loa racial where it’s really kinda meaningless outside of optimization and/or flavor in the big scheme of things.

We absolutely don’t need to go the way of Shadowlands style covenant skills or Vanilla style unbalanced priest racials again.

This is exactly why the RPG discussion with my friends started as almost ended into an argument…

Their argument was exactly what you just said but when a bit more on the side of:

Faith: “We have all these different culture with different entities to our faith, but all powers and abilities are from one race Faith? When in the history of WoW did we get converted to “X” culture or “Y” Cosmic Entity is all we can access in WoW as PC?”

Pacts: “Why can’t I make pact with other demons not in the Burning Legion… why can’t I make Pacts or enslave the Death Entities or a minor “other” Void Lords or weakened Old Gods like Xal’atath was, Blood Elves enslave a Naaru and drain its power to give Light to their whole race why can’t I do that at a smaller scale?.. I want its power, I have no use for worship!”

Like I said after a fun discussion that turn into jokes we just decided its best leave it alone… for now.
Story team has yet to define a lot of things in the lore racial cultures to even attempt to push this in to the game live, among other reason or restrictions that we are not aware. So its a bit hard to try and RPG with elements not there in the game yet. (IMO)
 :person_shrugging:

As much as it sucks to know it’d never happen, the idea of alternate takes or skins of classes sounds cool. I know I’d like to re-theme my mage specs somewhat.

I, and many roleplayers use to have the cosmic pacts or faiths have meaning or influence to our characters story. Few still do, but a great deal many had those meanings & influences butchered.

Shadowlands ‘lore’ kind of showed that pacts or faiths have no meaning whatsoever, because they don’t go to their respective afterlives at the end.

— Sure you could argue “B-but there was infinite afterlives in the Shadowlands!” sure. But without anima they dry up right? They’re not eternal, they’re entropic. Especially the double death theme, suggesting one’s extinction if they die there (which kind of defeats the purpose of having an afterlife). They also either forgot or retconned the light afterlife, since the light ‘Has no purchase’ in the Shadowlands.

Another reason to why I feel SL should be retconned.

… Although they could later reveal there was ‘Unknown lore’ and over-write Shadowlands supposed ‘lore’ (Like SL had done to the lore before it) and restore some semblance back to the table with those tropes.
