Would It Be Against TOS To Trade A Mtn Dew Bike Code For In-Game Gold?

Like no real money trading or anything, just a code for gold? Kind of seems like a victimless trade. Would something like that be against TOS since it’s just for in-game currency?

Pretty sure that’s against the rules.

Only if you get caught!

Yes. Anything acquired with real world money (codes from purchased products) then redeemed on the promotion website, are outside Blizzard.

In-game things for in-game currency is fine. Out of game things/currency for in-game stuff is not.

Don’t mix the streams so to speak.

It is essentially gold buying. Exchanging real money out of game things for in-game currency. That is what it falls under.

Pretty sure that is against the TOS. Am betting Blizzard would take the gold and probably remove the mount from the buyer and would probably ban both accounts.

So in other words it’s okay if Blizzard does it with the WoW token but not if I do it with a limited time in-game mount?

Also, it is technically an in-game item. I can’t ride this mount in real life.

You can’t enter the code in-game though. So it’s an out-of-game item that’s being traded for gold.

You got the points to redeem for the code by purchasing a product with real money. You have to redeem the points on a 3rd party website. You are not getting the code directly from Blizzard.

If the code was obtainable by doing something within the game itself, then that would be a different situation.

WHY IS EVERY SINGLE BLIZZARD BLUE RADIO SILENT?

Seriously, this is highway robbery. I demand to know what the hell is happening with this “Sold Out” scam. How have they not put out a statement yet?

Ehh it just happened today and it’s Saturday.

The hell is that supposed to mean? Blizzard HQ only works 9-5 Monday through Friday? Come on Tovi, I know your posts pretty well. I know you’re not a white knight in the slightest, but this is indefensible and you know it.

Listen, I am incredibly reasonable and understanding, especially of software development.

But this is by every single definition, false advertisement. Someone messed up big time, and despite the fact that the PR dept of this company has demonstrated that it is without a doubt one of THE worse I have ever seen, this is a layup.

To not put a SINGLE tweet about this.
“We are aware of the situation and we are investigating.”

To not even say that. It’s insulting. Insulting on so many levels.

That they just found out today and today is Saturday? Thought that was pretty straight forward.

That’s what I assume. They’re a gaming company, not a grocery store. There’s no reason for them to be open on the weekend.

I wasn’t defending them. I was just answering your question with my guess.

Surprised to hear the dude with 41k posts isn’t a white knight.

Correct. Blizzard added an official way to “buy gold” using their website to give people an option besides shady third party sites in other countries that steal customer data/financials.

What Aryeana said. Things obtained in game can be sold for in-game currency. Things obtained outside of game, including codes, can not be sold for gold.

This all was discussed in detail with the Trading Card Game they used to have. You could sell the real cards for real money. Once you got a prize code from an IN-GAME NPC, you could sell that for in-game gold.

They don’t need to because it is in the game rules that prizes are limited and that they may be replenished if the partner gives them more prizes (in this case another batch of codes). The company running the promotion will have a contract with the game company. The game company issues batches of codes based on that contract. So, if they ask Blizzard for more codes then depending on the contract, Blizz might give them more.

During the Promotion Period, reward items will be available in limited numbers, and are available while supplies last and are subject to availability (“Rewards”). To explore the available Rewards in the marketplace (“Marketplace”), visit the Website. Participant will only be eligible to redeem for Rewards for which Participant has banked enough Points for. To redeem for a Reward, the Participant must navigate to the Reward and select their choice, then click, or tap the Redeem Now button to redeem that Reward. Participant will receive an email confirming the Reward they redeemed, and the Participant’s Account will be debited the corresponding number of Points after redeeming a Reward. Participant will also be eligible to redeem 100 Points for a Sweepstakes entry (“Sweepstakes Entry”) during each Sweepstakes Entry Period. Participant will receive an email confirming they received a Sweepstakes Entry and the Participant’s Account will be debited by 100 Points. There is no limit on the number of Sweepstakes Entries a Participant can redeem Points for each Sweepstakes Entry Period assuming Participant has sufficient Points in their Account.

All Rewards available on the Website are subject to change without notice. A limited quantity of physical Rewards will be released each week during the Promotion Period. Check back regularly each week. Rewards will be redeemed on a “first come, first serve” basis in relation to when Participants electronically complete “check out” transactions in their Accounts. Once supplies of a Reward offered are exhausted, the Reward will be shown as out of stock.

Once any Reward is “out of stock” that Reward will no longer be available, unless restocked, as determined by Sponsor, in its sole discretion. Restocking of any specific Reward does not indicate that further restocking of any other Reward will occur. No exchanges, returns or refunds on any Rewards are permitted for any reason. Sponsor may, in its discretion, add new merchandise for redemption during the Promotion Period.

EDIT - Hopefully Blizz gives them more codes for folks to redeem, which the promotion company will need to ask for.

I heard some of the physical items you could get for the codes like the PC giveaways and whatnot were coming back in limited stock on Monday so maybe the mount will too.

Pretty much. It would take something gamebreaking to get them to do something on the weekend.

Legally, no.

It’s called Good Customer Service. Good Consumer Communication. It’s called Good PR.

I’m not sure what point is that you’re trying to drive here. It’s a switch and bait that people weren’t expecting, and all it would take to clear this out is literally a single blue post with a single sentence explaining one way or another.

Most people are aware of how “terms of contract” for rewards work, and how the legalese of it is heavily skewed to protect all liability in events like this.

That isn’t the point. I want to think that you know that. You have to. You can’t believe that it isn’t absolutely the worse decision to make as a corporation to stay quiet about this.

Why is this so hard for people to understand?

Yes, I do understand all that and the frustration folks feel right now.

I really don’t expect a statement on the weekend, if at all. The folks handling this are not around. The most CS would do right now is point to the terms saying that rewards are limited, and that they might be replenished. They don’t run the promotion in the CS department - they don’t even live in the same state.

I don’t expect much besides them pointing out that as batches of rewards are issued to the promoter, people will need to check the website. Like the terms say.

No, it is not fair or fun. It sucks. Most people did not read the terms and were not aware that the reward were limited.

I am pretty sure, given how early in the promotion this is, there WILL be more codes issued to the promoter. That is logical. Hopefully they do that.

I guess I’m fortunate then that I got one of the last few codes.

Yeah it’d be so crazy if someone did that.
…so crazy…
