Would disabling .NET Framework 3.5 , .NET 2.0 and 3.0 be detrimental?

Okay! Wish me luck. Any last words before I try this?

I installed the driver and apu without any issues, so thatā€™s a relief. Next I unpaused my windows update (I paused it because it was starting to force the 2004 down my throat.) Now it says downloading the 2004 update. Itā€™s at 7% right now, it could take a little while to complete everything. Gosh I hope this works. Itā€™s been stressing me out for months.

Well you didnt get the error and its installing nowā€¦

Oh no I would get further than a download. It would reboot twice, then it would still be on 1909 with a failed attempt message.

It should fix your issue. Neither your chipset or APU was supported by 2004.
Now they are.

If it works? Bookmark those links. Remember to keep both up to date.

If it doesnt? We can look into updating your Bios. Reply either way. I will check this thread in the morning

It effin failed again :rage:
Still one problem out of the way, but I think weā€™re only half done here. A bios update might be needed. And I would really like your help with this. I just donā€™t have a mic. I could install Discord if you want. But we can wait for tomorrow or some other time. Iā€™ve had my dose of anxiety for the day lol. See you tomorrow!

Honestly your best bet at this point before updating your bios? The only way Iā€™d recommend updating your bios is if you have a friend that can come over and help you and knows what theyā€™re doing. Your bios is the central nervous system of your computer so you really donā€™t want to Tinker with anything with it unless you know what you doing

If not? call Microsoft and tell them the exact error youā€™re getting and theyā€™ll tell you how to fix it and they will literally walk you through how to fix it for free. Since itā€™s a Windows error. When you call them the first words out of your mouth need to be Iā€™m getting a error when trying to install a Windows update.

As I said they will help you for free since itā€™s a Windows issue. We have tried everything that I have seen cast that error. Without some type of voice chat itā€™s going to be hard for me to troubleshoot your issue so itā€™s best for you to just call them

Hereā€™s the Windows technical support #

If you are outside the United States here is there global list

Letā€™s try that before updating your bios. Let us know here afterwards what you find out

Alright, Iā€™ll call them this week. I could always call for a technician to come to my home too.

And I want to thank you Shiftydruid. Youā€™re the best help on the subject Iā€™ve encountered, and I looked in many places. Iā€™m glad I got the proper chipset and apu driver now. Youā€™re the best thing to happen to me in the last 6 months!

I can give you a much faster solution if you want it it wonā€™t involve calling anyone.

  • Back up all the stuff you care about
  • Download the most up-to-date version of Windows and make and installable flash drive
  • Boot into the Flashdrive and wipe your main hard drive
  • Do a fresh install of Windows The fresh install might actually run smoother than your current version anyway.

This solution itā€™s guaranteed to fix your problem because itā€™s a fresh install of the most current version and not an upgrade.

Out of curiosity, have you tried this?

Shifty is quite right in that, long term, you donā€™t want to get rid of .NET completely - parts of the OS outright depend upon it. But if weā€™re talking something that only has to be gone for long enough to perform an update then thereā€™s nothing stopping you from trying it, since you can go back to the same place and re-enable it (put the check back, reboot) whether it helps or not.

But if you want to save some time (and some bandwidth) it could be worth getting the Media Creation Tool and saving an ISO. Windows 10 can natively mount ISOs so you can install from it without writing it to a disc, and that way you only need to download it once no matter how many attempts you make.

As an aside, when installing it I would recommend against letting it check for updates during the installation. Iā€™ve seen that feature screw up more than once. Update it to the bare 20H1/2004 (or 20H2/2010, which has been available for a week or two) and then run Windows Update immediately after it finishes.

Honestly dude at this point the fresh install is going to be the fastest guaranteed fix

It may also prevent future issues like this

Probably. I just know how much it annoys me when I have to set up an OS from scratch when I could have possibly kept my old stuff going. Plus thereā€™s a certain sense of satisfaction from overcoming something problematic like this - but Iā€™m weird like that.

Yeah my concern at this point is a corrupted Windows File in which case is no easy fix. Even if there is a way to cut around it it wonā€™t only present issues again in the future

The fresh install will solve that issue completely

I can do that myself I think. It shouldnā€™t be too tricky. But if the mobo is not up to date, like the chipset and apu were, wonā€™t the installation fail? Iā€™ve seen screenshots of a window installation that failed because of this same error. Also it would reboot in the previous version, which is a nice safeguard if it fails at least.

I think it was that email Microsoft sent me. My procrastination is costing me a lot of troubles this time.

No the fresh install is a guaranteed fix and I know itā€™s annoying having to backup all the stuff you care about but you spent far more time stressing about this over the past 6 months letā€™s get the issue fixed once and for all

Is this step necessary? Must I delete the windows installation before and wipe all data from the drive? Or can I just reinstall one Windows on top of another? I think in the video they donā€™t mention this step.

Yes it is. Follow the steps in the video. You need a fresh install. Your current version gone. Follow the steps in the video to make a flash drive installer. If you have two Hard Drives it will only wipe whats on your C drive. Follow the steps. Download the most update version and make it an installable flash drive. Reformat your C drive to ensure its deleted.

This is a 100% garneted fix. When done you will have the newest version installed and the corrupted file preventing you from upgrading will be gone.
