I think this summer would be a great time to have SoD restart from phase 1 on a new realm. The world PVP and liveliness of the world was unrivaled, and it was easily the most fun I’ve ever had on WoW. Would you play a fresh SoD realm?
No. It really wouldnt work IMO… plus too many classic or other WoW products already coming out this summer / fall. MoP and AQ very soon then rolling right into Naxx with 11.2 retail not far after.
Don’t care about retail
Well thats wonderful for you, we all deeply care.
The question wasnt if you like retail or not… the question was if a fresh version of SoD would work right now… too which i opine it would not due to tons of WoW competition atm.
I think a fresh SoD realm would work.
No, for the same reasons I stopped playing SoD when I did. I don’t wish to support the type of playerbase and playstyle that the Classic dev team catered to during SoD. It’s a real turn-off for me.
I don’t think the awful playerbase is the devs’ fault. They just followed the streamers.
I specifically mean the throwers — they complained about premade BGs in Phase 1, and got their way for phase 2.
The Bloodmoon event was a lot of fun though, imo. Great addition to the pvp scene.
Early phase was pure nostalgia but really wasnt that fun…
I mean level 25 shamans outside of tanking were absolutely useless.
A better version of SoD would be 30/45/60 IMO 25 was kinda scuffed… yeah it was fun for a few classes like Hunter and priest which were gods… but a lot of classes really sucked at 25 and it wasnt fun at all
Idk any classes that sucked at 25 and weren’t fun, but I’ll take your word for it.
I played Hunter, Druid, Warrior, Paladin, so not sure about other classes. I really liked warrior (though a lot of people had negative things to say about them).
I think they tried to make level caps based on profession levels, which might be something else to balance if they made changes, but I’d like to see a natural twink level cap, honoring the old twinking traditions, and maybe expanding on that as a content area.
Druid was the worst of those… but the other 3 were insanely good yee. You picked correctly.
I thought it was fine. I was Alliance, and feral druids were really wanted for raids, which I enjoy playing.
I can’t remember, but weren’t people complaining about Balance being broken in phase 1?
EDIT (found some context):
“Don’t worry, phase 2 will fix it”
- Feral Druid is the most viable spec in PvE.
- Boomkin is by far the best spec in the game in PvP.
Retail players really don’t matter to classic, at all whatsoever. Classic was made to appeal to an MMORPG audience.
I agree that they shouldn’t do fresh SoD though. SoM on the other hand was infinitely superior.
I didn’t play SoM, because I was a little burnt out on WoW at the time, and the discouragement of Dungeon Spamming wasn’t something that really works for me.
Didn’t they remove world buffs from raids for SoM though? How was that for class balance?
Incorrect.
Classic was made to drive MAUs to the battle.net launcher so you could see the ads for retail expansions and store mounts and hope you buy one.
If you cant understand how a major corporation works idk if you can be saved
Class balanced was untouched. Basically they just made the raids harder. No world buffs, more boss HP, and they added a bunch of unique mechanics. Every raid was mechanically a lot more interesting, but it was otherwise still vanilla. The shame was blizzard released it at the worst possible time and most people didn’t get to experience it.
Yeah, it was pretty bad timing, imo. The dungeon XP thing too though really turned me off… as I enjoyed dungeon leveling in Classic over questing. And forming guild communities around that.
SoM was too vanilla. SoD wins.
Yeah all those huge sod streamers like… oh wait
Ever hear of Asmongold?
Is he the bald guy?
