Well if I was playing a demon hunter, i’d actually probably choose Saurfang. The reason why my Forsaken cares about it is because he cares about contextless hypocrisy, I.E: The notion of what you are in the dark mattering, to him compromising his ideals in private where no one can see would make him no better then the Alliance. This is neither inherently good nor smart, it’s merely principled, in the final calculus the spirit of the Forsaken matters above all, and turning on her now for these people would compromise both his soul, and the soul of his people in his eyes.
However, being a Demon Hunter, the life of Azeroth as a whole is more precious to me then the life of any one nation. In joining with the Illdari I have already turned on both the Alliance and the Horde once before. To live is enough, and Sylvanas poses a greater threat to the worlds survival then Anduin. No matter how anti-Alliance I might of been.
Yeah, I often feel people tend to mix up “the pragmatic option” with “the cruelest option”. Burning down Teldrassil isn’t pragmatic given the extreme risk of it backfiring. It wasn’t itself a deathblow to the Alliance, and therefore there’s no guarantee the Alliance, now wholly dedicated to the war, won’t end up winning.
Basically, she traded the possibility of a war with the Alliance happening eventually…for the guarantee of a war with the Alliance happening right now.
Right now the most pragmatic Horde leader is probably Lor’themar. He sees the situation for what it is. Sylvanas is causing a major political schism within the Horde, and that he will only get one chance to act against her directly, so he can’t blow it on a moral stand like Bane did.
Is it, though? Saurfang is trying to stamp out a perceived threat to Azeroth, and he’s willing to set aside his differences and work parallel to his enemies to achieve the greater good. That strikes me as something a DH would do.
Meanwhile, from a DH’s lens, Sylvanas is willingly ignoring the fact that the planet itself is dying in order to start an unnecessary war with the Alliance. Her way of thinking seems much more antithetical to a DH than Saurfang’s.
Very much a question. There was deliberately a choice in the Demon Hunter order hall to pick between any means necessary or trying to take the high road.
Correct, but there is a huge difference between the two scenarios.
I assume you’re referring to picking between Altrius and Kayn - the former being “listen to reason, act accordingly” and the latter being “follow the orders, the master knows best”. It’s a bit different with Sylvanas and Saurfang.
Saurfang is: do whatever, but if I am personally responsible and it doesn’t fit within a janky circle of “honour”, then dont do it.
Sylvanas: do what’s best (to her and her position as warchief), ignore the moral aspects of it, as the end end justifies the means.
Would a demon hunter ignore the morals of a situation if the end is great? Or would they have a hissy fit?
i don’t think demon hunters would care really much anymore about politics/world affairs since their purpose was to destroy the burning legion and they’re already gone
How much do DHs actually ARE members of the Alliance and Horde is up for debate. They have been members for what - two years - and mostly spent their time in the Class Hall, fighting with their fellow Illidari. How much each cares for their built-in faction would be a personal matter, so open field for roleplay.
Everyone likes comparing them to DKs, but there are key diffrences. First, Ebon Blade members have actually joined the factions lorewise - Thassarian and Koltira most prominently, but several others as well. And they have had more time to adapt - and were members of the the Alliance and Horde before their fall and transformation.
Not only are the Illidari new - but unlike the Death Knights, they CHOSE to get messed up. That is saying something.
Hmmm, I would chose who ever gave my Heritage armor a More DK or DH hunter look! Man I wish I could just go to my hall and use my forge to Reforge my Heritage armor to a more fitting look as a DK or DH to really show my Heritage!
Joking aside I think it all depends on what type of DH you are, like so many here have pointed out.
