You have to download files to play on the server so it is technically illegal. Whether it is enforced or not doesn’t matter.
Downloading a version of a game that isn’t licensed isn’t illegal.
It’s sad because it’s true, agree
Wrath of the Whale King should be the new name.
Technically everyone who purchased WotLK back in the day already purchased a license to those files. The only thing illegal is the hosted service, but the smart ones operate outside Blizzard’s reach.
Not the open source license.
This is a pretty decent read, if you haven’t read it already:
I don’t think you have the faintest clue about how the law around this works.
very insightful post
Is that why Blizz goes after the servers but not the players?
Well if you think pirate servers will fulfill you better then move on and play on these.
True. I’ve been looking forward to WotLK Classic for years because WoW Classic and TBC Classic weren’t really my cup of tea anymore and I had more fond memories of old WotLK.
But with all these changes it’s just not Wrath anymore and I strongly consider going back to a well populated Wrath private server. I don’t want to play some modern reboot version of WotLK that has so many changes.
Add LFD now!
another wrath baby thread.
keep being cringe, it brings me joy
i enjoyed the flaws and such. the issue is the playerbase. with full knowledge nothing is new and the way people play games now is different.
Sounds like to you a game needs to be perfect with nothing wrong at all for it to be good.
Not much competition,
When the real deal drops kekmane will lose half its players or more.
It depends on if they are going to delete the ability to play WOTLK within 2 years.
What in the world does this even mean? Are you ok? Blink twice if you need help.
Incidentally he’s unclear on how lots of things work.
Other people understood it, sounds like a you issue tbh.
This is pretty obvious stuff but sure… I’ll explain it to you.
For one… which do you think is easier/more cost effective? Going after thousands of almost impossible to find players? Or going after a couple, slightly easier to find server operators?
And secondly… how do you think they’re going to go after these players? To even start to identify them they’d need access to the server itself. At which point there’s really no point in expending the resources to find them… And they’d still need to pore through IP records etc in the hopes of maaaybe identifying a fraction of a percent of the players, and maybe they’d actually be able to action a fraction of a percent of those.
You’re welcome. 1st one is free
