For those who want fresh vanilla servers or SoM 2, is it because of the vanilla endgame raids, or is there something about leveling that you prefer? I like leveling but in my opinion leveling 1-60 in wotlk seems about the same as vanilla, with slightly different abilities, xp speed, and earlier mounts.
Leveling in Vanilla is a challenge and thus fun. A kindergartner could level in Wrath, thus it is a snooze.
It’s all about the fresh server. Everyone starts from 1. You actually meet other players in the low level zones. Crafting matters. Rare drops matter. Gathering matters. Making gold matters. This lasts for a few months before it turns into a gold buying GDKP fest like other established servers.
Btw, I leveled 1-80 on Skyfury (fresh WotLK server) and the leveling is not quite the same. WotLK leveling is easy mode. The classes in WotLK are way too strong for vanilla content.
It’s not at all. Mob difficulty; elite group quests, booming world PvP. Leveling in vanilla is like playing a DND sesh leveling in WOTLK is like retail but slower. You’re already super strong in WOTLK compared to vanilla.
It’s various things.
The class designs are more retailesque in wrath destroying anything within a couple seconds.
The pace is off so you skip portions of or whole zones while leveling.
World pvp is constant due to no flying mounts to skip the world.
Raids are easy strolls to just relax and grab gear while hanging with the buds.
Fresh servers obviously play into a lot of it due to competitive feel of a server. To clarify this, most have no illusion of being the best or even attempting it, but being in the crowd brings a certain energy and excitement as you progress to the end.
AQ event brings world pvp and politics that you can’t really find in any other mmo.
The game design revolves around being in the world to invite more interaction (if boosting is under control)
World buffs bring players into the world for more interaction and pvp.
There is more sense of community as the focus isn’t quite as large on parse culture (though there is the group that only cares about it regardless)
I’m sure I’m missing some things here, but these are the big ones for me.
how can you say it feels about the same when you get lvl 20 mounts.
I guess on a scale of 1 being vanilla and 10 being retail, I’d say it’s a 2. I think the thing I really want is a fresh server I guess, and whether it’s wotlk or vanilla doesn’t matter much to me. I do think having elite quests that force players to group up is nice, though.
Id say wotlk is more like a 5-6 for me as far as being close to retail.
WotLK leveling is like an 8 on that scale. You just run around and AoE everything. I was pulling 3-4 mobs at a time as a low level warrior on Skyfury.
You die if you pull even 2 mobs as a low level warrior on a fresh classic server.
Your cancerous GDKP-endorsing community isn’t a representative of the Classic Playerbase as a whole.
My cancerous community? I’m the one who wants fresh servers…
Only one of us plays with GDKPs. It’s not me.
The cooldown changes alone make Wrath leveling through vanilla zones a bore.
Make vanilla fresh or som2. Ty.
He isn’t playing wrath rn, so your statement is false
Both of you aren’t playing with GDKPs
Fixed
You kind of need more than 10 players on your server to GDKP so yeah obviously you dont GDKP
For me the best lvling experience was TBC. I felt everything was just fluid from lvl 1 to 70. TBC was not my favorite expansion but i loved lvling toon from 1.
