WotLK Spell Book Oversight

I am bringing this up as a retired addon developer for WoW Classic. Back in the days of the original Burning Crusade expansion, I developed an addon to address the clutter of spells and ranks. When WotLK Beta came out, Blizzard offered beta keys to addon developers in order to adapt their addons before WotLK officially released. I got a key so I can update my Condensed Spell Book addon. Immediately in the Beta, I discovered my addon was rendered obsolete.

I am being informed that WotLK Classic still shows all known ranks for spells that use mana. This is not inline with the original WotLK. During the original WotLK Beta, downranking spells was completely removed. I am being told that lower ranks of mana-based spells are still available in WotLK when a higher rank spell is available.

I want to pass this along on an official channel, despite I quit WoW some time ago. This seems to be the only route I can find. I doubt most players would recognize this is potentially an in-game bug.

Something you’re remembering was wrong.

It wasn’t literally removed, it was rendered obsolete by every downrank costing the same as the max rank. The lower ranks still were in the spellbook

No, I didn’t. Here is the factual evidence in the comments for the mod. Wrath of the Lich King added a spellbook rank filter. Your sources are in error

Right now in the pre-patch there is already a checkbox at the top of the spellbooks to show or hide lower ranks of spells, which seems to be how it was in the original? Downranking is useless but it’s still possible.

Read those comments, they say exactly the same thing as my source. “what is the purpose for using lower rank spells anymore?”, clearly showing the guy had low rank spells showing.

No idea how you flipped that around in your brain

Dellesta, that is good to hear. I can safely discontinue my addon. Well, I could if there is an option that causes spells in the action bars to automatically update when a new rank is learned.

As for Jon, I didn’t flip anything around in my brain. You ignored data. My problem is that players are still pestering me to update this old addon that provided the spellbook features that are brought in on WotLK, in the old days rendering the spellbook clean up addon obsolete, in which says that Blizzard forgot to update the spellbook, an oversight. Your argument was that said update to the default UI spellbook did not happen. My physical evidence against your deferred evidence shows that Blizzard did enable removing the lower ranks from the spellbook in WotLK, which rendered a spellbook clean up addon as unnecessary.
