Wotlk Ret vs Cata Design

I’m well aware this is a long shot but I’m going to give my feedback anyway.

With the Retribution T10 2set (ICC), Ret is possibly the most fun version of the spec ever while mostly staying true to the original Paladin design.

In Cata, Ret gets by far the worst version of Holy Power to ever exist. Especially before the T13 (Dragon Soul) set bonus that lets Judgement generate Holy Power.

In a world where Cata is really #Changes I would love to see Ret redesigned to be as similar to ICC design as possible. Rubuke is really the main thing Wotlk Ret is missing for both PvE and PvP.

At worst, I would like to see the T13 (Dragon Soul) Set bonus that allows Judgement to generate Holy Power be a baseline part of the spec from the start. Waiting entire expansions for spec defining changes doesn’t feel good for anyone.

You don’t enjoy the HUGE TVs that you get first 2 tiers?

The Holy Power design is extremely rough in Cata, especially before Dragon Soul. MoP has a similar but significantly improved design. Ironically even MoP holds the most fun part of the spec until the final tier set as well though.

Both Cata and MoP have their merits, if we are talking just pure “Fun” fully ignoring power factor, then Cata Ret is my 3rd favored version with MoP being the 4th and Vanilla / TBC being tied for top spot 1&2.

So why you’re likely wondering about wrath and why I don’t even list it? Well, simple, while its tremendously powerful that doesn’t mean a spec is fun to play in PvP or for general use.

I rate these specs overall, not respective to power, but purely on fun I have with them. So why is wrath so low? Because it has an answer for basically everything thrown at it, and so nothing is truly a problem to deal with because we have a reactionary tool for it all.

Where as let’s contrast Wrath with vanilla the inverse is kinda true, I need to predict, and play the situation in advance or I’m dead, some readers may think I’m allergic to many abilities, but that would be false, have played every class excluding DK and Warlock.

Number of buttons and abilities isn’t key to fun, tho while handy its best if they aren’t spammy cooldown chasing (wrath) that could literally be played by a small team of drinking birds.

Fast forward to Cata or MoP, while it plays like a kid friendly version of a rogue, its most certainly fun and expects the player make some choices in combat even if seriously basic with a rudimentary rotation of prio and some basic rules on ramp up…

Worst part about Pala post 2.0 is Avenging Wrath; worst mistake ever.

They should just remove paladins. All paladin mains ever do is complain

If your going to play Cata Classic, embrace Cata Classic.
Otherwise, why play it?

Funny, All I see are people who complain about Ret Paladins giving feedback (which was literally asked for by Blizzard)

This is entirely subjective. Cata Ret is my favorite version of Ret, ever, and I’ve been waiting for this version to finally happen in classic for 4 years now. Same with Holy. It was never as good or as fun again after cata, and it would be an absolute sin to change it for Cata classic.

You got to play your favorite version of Ret in Wotlk, let us play our version of Ret in Cata. The thing i look forward to most in cata is the Paladin rework.
