I remember flying around Wintergrasp for hours mining back in WOTLK.
What a nice memory.
Or is it PTSD.

Are you in Chromie time? Cause my Warrior who just leveled in Wrath during Chromie time farmed a TON of stuff.
I noticed that too a few weeks ago. Was there for the secret questline and figure I would kill some time mining afterwards. Flew over most of my old routes and found 1 node. Was really strange.
I’m not 100% sure, but WotLK introduced phasing and heavily phased the zones including the nodes. The more quests you progressed, the more the nodes opened up. There are several nodes that appear in the tracker that wont actually be accessible until you complete certain quests for the zone. Which is why LK ore is comparitively still lucrative.
All it takes is one person to completely deplete the zone.
I was fighting with a singular other player for nodes in icecrown not long ago.
Increaded flight speed + node regen not being updated causes a lot of downtime unfortunately.
My best guess is someone was 2 to 3 nodes ahead of you out pacing and depleting them.
Wrath mining nodes are more sparse than nodes in the current expansion.
I did that before reset this morning, and got everything I needed in 10 minutes in Icecrown.
I went on an old main and it looks like there may be something to this. I wouldn’t put it past blizz to not notice this sort of bug for YEARS
