WotLK End Dungeons (FoS, PoS, HoR) Appear to be over tuned in Timewalking

Hey, just wondering if anyone else has noticed that while using Chromie Timewalking in Wrath of the Lich King, these three dungeons:

  • Forge of Souls
  • Pit of Saron
  • Halls of Reflection

appear to be scaled in a way that makes them probably too difficult.

I’ve tried queuing for these maybe 10 or so times now because I wanted to do the Sylvanas dungeon quests, but I’ve never been in a group that has been able to clear the first boss in any dungeon. I have been in groups with a lot of coordination as well, i.e. it’s not just random pugs. We’ve tried rotating healthstones/self healing, multiple soulstones, we even tried two healers for the first boss of FoS (since his Magic’s Bane ability does nearly half of a mana users health every time it casts.)

I’m guess that this might be because these were sort of “end of expansion” dungeons, so everyone had a higher item level when they were released back in the day, but it’s not possible to get high item level when doing Timewalking as far as I’m aware.

I think it is very cool to have dungeons that are super hard, it would make a satisfying end to a Timewalking campaign, but I think these might just be a little over tuned.

Has anyone else been able to clear them?

I think the difficulty has more to do with how tanking has changed since Wotlk, specifically around magic damage. Magic Damage is more difficult to deal with now than is it was back wotlk. I don’t know what kind of tanks you have, but I have to wonder if something like Blood that has the self heals and ams does better than the some of the other tanks

I haven’t tried these after pre patch but they were always meant to be pretty rough till outgeared.

It’s possible blizzard didn’t tune them properly…some dungeon mobs in TBC
dungeons during BFA did more dps than bosses did, best advice I can give is bring consumables and a DK to dominate one of the undead elites.

Had a mixture of tanks, probably more Blood, couple Pally’s and 1 warrior I think.
All pretty tough going ay

I’m tempted to try it on this guy. Although, it wouldn’t really be a fair comparision. Assuming your profile is accurate, I run different talents and I think there is a noticeable difference in gear level.

Oh sorry, I wasn’t doing on this. Doing it on my mid 40s Warlock that I’m levelling

That definitely wouldn’t be a fair comparison. Knowing today’s blizzard, I wouldn’t be surprise if your lock is stronger… All this weird scaling going on.

Heh yeah. I actually don’t mind the scaling that much as long as it’s confined to the Timewalking campaign, it feels really good to quest through the zones now and have all of the quests always be relevant

IMO, Timewalking has been a mess ever since BfA came out. In Legion, it was pretty faceroll but that was kind of the point – go back and play through some old content for nostalgia’s sake, get decent leveling gear for your trouble.

In BfA, it’s become almost “mythic plus lite” but the gear didn’t get any better. At one point this year, I ran a few M+10 - M+15 with our guild group, jumped on a fresh 120 and queued for Timewalking, and spent more time on one Timewalking dungeon than any of those keys. Nostalgia is nice and all, but I have to have some kind of payoff to make me want to do the content beyond just nostalgia.
