WoTLK Classic Raid Difficulty

Seeing how such a joke TBC classic was and how easy WoTLK (including ‘hardmodes’) will be worries me. Does anyone else think that they should make raiding somewhat more difficult? Maybe increasing HP/damage done during boss encounters will help, but right now everyone is just rolling through content with almost little to no challenge. I think my guild wiped on Vashj/Kael less than 20 times before killing them.

I’m afraid it will just be another snooze fest where you roll through content with no problem then be bored until the next content comes out. Yes I know there’s achievements and whatnot but it will be the same as TBC classic how easy it was. Plus wouldn’t you rather achieve something that’s harder to do instead of every single person defeating heroic raids right away?

Very easy excluding a few fights like LK 25 heroic.

lets put it this way, in actual wrath these raids were pugg’d when they were present progression.

players were smashing the content so quickly that blizzard gated ICC so we could not clear it on day 1

I don’t think they should make raids difficult. I think if people are honest with themselves, a vast majority of people don’t want difficult raids. It is why the min/max culture is so popular even among casual guilds.

People just want to be able to hang out with their online friends and kill some big bad monsters in raids/dungeons to unwind. Very few people actually want a difficult gaming experience. If they make raids too difficult, a vast majority of the people would just lose interest and find something else to do.

Keep in mind this is just my opinion and I do not have any hard facts to support this claim. I could be 100% wrong and I honestly can’t speak for everyone. I know there are some people out there who do want difficult raids, but I feel like they are the minority.

The thing is, they will literally never do this so its a moot point.

I agree but I have a tiny crumb of hope since all of the inner changes Blizzard is going through as well as Season of Mastery…but yeah :triumph:

I’m fine with it either way and I do appreciate some challenge in raids. I think they will be guided by past data in their decision. Phase 2 (pre nerf SSC/TK) was the highest attrition period in TBC. Phase 3 was a revitalization through the easier BT/Hyjal raids. If I’m an MMO developer, I’d like as many people playing as possible.

I think the Classic community as a whole might say they want “more difficult content”, but they might prefer shooting the ish with the boys on discord while clearing stuff for phat lewtz instead. Of course this is speculation.

So you’re asking if Blizz should ensure that Wrath Classic is a complete failure?

No, I don’t think they should deliberately tank Wrath Classic.

its a fact, players regardless of the things they say prefer easy raids now days because they dont actually (for the most part) like progression or challenge, but only care about those orange and purp parses

I would love it if raids were significantly more difficult if resets were once a month and bosses dropped 4x as much loot. Make it so we can wipe 10 times on the first 2 bosses and still not feel like a waste of time; each kill would feel rewarding rather than just another kill.

I’m mostly just interested in 10 person raids & 5 man dungeons, as most 25/40 person raids are just not much fun (IMO). Too many people for my taste, & akin to herding cats.

From what i’ve read here it look like that players enjoy “easy” content & they don’t want to try and wipe multiples times anymore.

IMO, this is why Wrath is the “alts expansion” to keep having a progression & being entertained you need multiples characters.

I’m fine with it. If i would like challenging content i would play retail.

This seems rather common sense to me. This is a Classic server. We’re talking about 14 year old content. In my mind the average player just values the experience. They don’t want the ultra challenge. They don’t care about world firsts…which already happened many, many years ago. The ultra elite min/max tryhards have Retail designed specifically for that purpose. So what would be the reason to design a Classic server the same way?

I look at SoM and TBC Classic and I see Blizz trying to appease those types of players…and it didn’t work out well. SoM is apparently a ghost town. So much for ‘hardcore Vanilla’. And I believe a big reason TBCC wasn’t nearly as successful as Vanilla Classic is because for some insane reason Blizz went with the harder version of dungeons and raids, and much more intense attunements. Again, the average person playing a Classic server doesn’t want all kinds of boundaries thrown in their face. There’s a reason those changes were done way back in TBC the first time. And there’s a reason the community continued to grow. You know when it stopped growing? When Blizz decided to turn WoW into a damn e-sport.

So hopefully Blizz has learned that lesson. But I learned long ago not to expect the rational reaction from Blizz.

So many players around me were less active (but still sub) during Wrath because the game clearly didn’t feel the same. They were going to stop after killing Arthas.
Guilds were struggling to keep theirs members because players were able to do all the content in PUG.

There were multiples things that made WoW “fall” but i don’t think Esport was part of them. You can avoid Esport but you can’t avoid the huge changes in gamedesign.

Most of us lost started to lost interest during Wrath/Cataclysm.
It felt like we weren’t playing a MMORPG anymore. Most of the change initiated during Wrath killed a big part of our interest for some of us.

Ulduar hard modes and ICC heroic will be fine. Will they be some kind of mythic difficulty that takes triple digit wipes? Of course not, but they’ll still be fine and provide enough of a challenge to casual players to be engaging for a time. Naxx phase will probably suck, but so long as it isn’t prolonged too much it’ll be alright.

Hardcore players might get bored, but people who pride themselves on tryharding and stomping content in classic have no place to complain about difficulty when they’re playing a game that is known for being easy.

I just hope they remove the stupid time gating and stacking buffs from ICC.

LK heroic was so boring I actually feel asleep during the raid

WOTLK content was so easy that when cataclysm came out one of the biggest complaints were the raids and heroic dungeons were too hard.

Blizzard needs to stop dragging their feet on difficulty in these games. Pre-Nerf content in TBC isn’t good enough and that’ll be more than clear when Sunwell. Players are going to out gear content so hard that it won’t be difficult.

We need real raid tuning for WOTLK.

my original guild called it quits in Wrath after completing Trial; to quote the reason roughly “wow moved on from us, and its not the same game or community any more”

reasons that our main tank was not thrilled with were the nerfing of difficulty in tanking that came with Late vailla 1.10+ only progressively becoming even more mindless in regard to threat generation and management as time went on culminating in wrath’s 100% mindless tanking.

now, i understand that most like EZ mode, but the original generation of players did not; myself included

Care to post on your TBC character to see how much of a snoozefest have you been having?

Shouldn’t matter to someone that’s not on the game.
