i need a new comp problem is im tryna save up to buy a new car ( used but expensive car that i will fix up myself “muscle car” basically ) so i was thinking of buying just the case for now and over months purchase other hardware.
i don’t really play much games besides WoW but typically i skimp on my GPU so yea my graphics do tend to late for higher end games. im looking to maybe spend about $6kish on the entire setup including a new monitor.
i have the money now problem is i don’t want to blow through it all. ontop of that idk how long my current PC will last. it’s about 6 years old now and have had issues over the years and slowly getting worse. everything has to go though. case itself is completely gone so i can’t really save anything.
looking for opinions on what i should do. for now im just running it until it poops out for good but i give it about maybe 3-5 years max.
$6k (in USD, CAD, AUD) is a LOT for a computer setup.

yea i mean it’s just an estimate for now i have to take into consideration actual part costs but what will really kill my budget is the shipping since i live in Hawaii. we have no good parts store here bestbuy is our best bet and their stock sucks.
case im looking at though is about $500 + shipping which was a lot. don’t remember if i rush delivered it or what. it’s a huge case though i might drop down to just a full atx but it’s just a rough estimate. my current build was about $3k only issue i get from it though is the graphics. in wow i don’t mind but i do play other games with demanding graphics from time to time.
but i’d be looking at maybe like a build that will take me around 1 year just to finish. Gpu, cpu and mobo/monitor is what is going to cost me a lot. my current monitor is extremely cheap nothing amazing about it
$6000 for a setup? but why? lol, dude, I don’t even know if that’s possible, unless you’re trying to get 2-3 really nice monitors, the very best desk and best of the best stuff + one of the best VR headsets, but you only play WoW… so…
Sounds to me like you just wanna spend a lot of money mindlessly lol, I mean, let’s see… I spent $3000 exactly close for my setup…
2070 Super RTX GPU
Ryzen 9 3900X CPU
16GB DDR4
Very sexy tons of RGB and some of the best cooling
it even has my name engraved on the side panel, cause I didn’t build it myself, I customized it at cyberpowerPC and they built it for me with the parts I picked. (Don’t know if I recommend this, I got a problem where the PC shuts off sometimes when trying to turn it on or after being in sleep mode for 20+ hours, could be something with the power tho)
only had 3TB hard drive with that $3000 budget, but I recently got a 10TB HDD for $250, and soon I need to get 32gb-64gb RAM for another $250ish since 16GB soon won’t be enough.
The most expensive piece you’re gonna be getting is the 3090 RTX GPU which is the best of the best to current date, and should last you for well over 6-8 years… best CPU is probably below 700…
My desk which is somewhat ok, was only around $130… you can probably get a very good one for under 500, and a very sick gaming chair for $100-300… (they’re selling limited horde/alliance chairs, maybe it ended since they’re limited… kinda overpriced $500 but if you wanna spend over $6k…)
Idk what else to suggest man… but me having a $3k setup, I run WoW perfectly well… with a 1440p ultrawide 100hz monitor… you could get yourself a 4k 144hz monitor or a super ultra wide for a bit more…
But you say you only mostly play WoW so… I don’t know why you’d need such a big budget setup man… lol, whatever floats your boat I guess, but good luck trying to find better parts to make your setup that high… I’m sure you can get the very best of the best for 4500 more less. You might as well be taking advantage of VR gaming with that kinda setup too… get yourself a Pimax 8k headset with index controllers (it has 4k resolution per eye, 75-90 hz) and that’ll do ya ![ ](https://d38bqls1q93fod.cloudfront.net/en/wow/images/emoji/twitter/slight_smile.png?v=9)
Here is my build before I switched to the Ryzen 9 5900x and I bought all my parts on Amazon. The only thing on this list is going to be hard to find is the graphics card.
I warn you these are all top-of-the-line parts. So only buy them if you want The Best of the Best. When I do a build I’m like you and I do a build this going to last me 5 years or so. I would recommend this because you can actually buy the parts right now. You can get the processor on eBay for Roughly 50$ over MSRP which isn’t terrible.
This build should run you close to 3K just like your last one. This build should blow any game completely out of the water. It’s actually ahead of its time which is why it should last you years to come. Unlike your current build which you say is nothing to write home about this will make any Enthusiast jealous ![:stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes: :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:](https://d38bqls1q93fod.cloudfront.net/en/wow/images/emoji/twitter/stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes.png?v=12)

6700k (had it for years) to 10900k to 5800x to 5900x yes.
The 9900k was just something I had laying around the shop it’s basically a demo CPU it was never intended to be my permanent CPU. Only reason I put it in was to hold me over until I could get something. I temp used it bec it was LGA 1150.
If Im doing a new build that’s going to last me a couple years I’m going to make dang sure it’s something I’m happy on. Aren’t return policies beautiful?
I didn’t expect to be able to get my hands on a 5900x till march. So the 5800x was meant to hold me over until then however I wound up getting one much sooner then I could have ever expected
I don’t see much benefit to buying a case far in advance of the rest of the system components unless you’re getting a sale price that you might not be able to get later.
OTOH, there’s not much risk in it either. There isn’t much that can go wrong with a case that isn’t immediately obvious when you open the box. I’d be pretty hesitant to buy something like a motherboard or CPU & leave it unused for months before building the system; I wouldn’t want to wait that long to find out something was wrong with it. I’d definitely want to build the system long before any warranties ran out on the individual components.
$6k for a PC is very doable. I have a $500,000 SSD on my desk being tested for work right now. Sky is the limit on what you spend if you want to throw cash around.
The question is is that extra $$ worth the extra few % perf that give you 1-2 more frames in a game at most?
Rhy and Shifty both have great specs posted already. I’m going to recommend following their advice. The only difference I’ll put in is I’d recommend a Radeon 6800 if you only play WoW and without ray tracing. If you want it, then wait for the 3080 TI. It’s already been spotted.
