Worst Zone Ever?

Just thought I’d try to spread some negativity and ask you guys what your least favorite zones of all time is, in any era or time period.

For me I’m going all the way back to vanilla Badlands. Oh god the mob density was awful, and in vanilla pulling 2 or 3 was a death sentence. If you had to pass through the zone it was a lot like trying to run through Thousand Needles, except waaay less pretty, and you were constantly getting ganked by 60s who were farming elementals. Love vanilla but Badlands was a disaster.
How about y’all?

Vashj’ir by far.

Underwater zone in Cata.
That zone was one of the biggest issues the playerbase had with that expansion.

I had a feeling Vashj’ir would be a popular pick :stuck_out_tongue:

It is very bad

Old desolace, zul drak, highmountain (without flying)… new BFA zones are ok but nothing memorable neithet.

Thousand Needles for me. I have barely touched a quest in that zone since the shattering. It was one of my favorite questing zones pre Cata

Fourthing Vashj’ir.

Still have no idea what they were on when they thought that was a good idea.

I was actually a fan of Vashj’ir, the only part I didn’t like was the very linear questing experience-- but that was a lot of Cata’s questing.

I’d probably have to go with Borean Tundra. It just kinda depresses me and feels dull.

Both sides of Strnglethorn. Friggin despise that zone.

I love the idea of an underwater zone but yeah… Vashj’ir just didn’t do it right

Definitely feel you on this. Out of all the zones Cata changed it just decimated Thousand Needles

Winterspring. While all zone at least had, or tried to have a theme to match the zone and its story. Winterspring, “eh, do things k? Here some stuff.”

Just kinda sitting there, bland and being borning.

Probably silithus.

It sucks.

It being awful is probably why Sargeras stabbed it.

Pre cata desolance. Its named like that for a reason…

Vash’jr for me. Then again, that’s because of my crippling thalassophobia.
It’s to Mt. Hyjal for me, thanks.

High mountain

Silithus. Had nothing to do for some time after launch, and has barely anything to do post-Cata outside of a somewhat janky event for two days every year.

I actually have very fond memories of Desolace, it was so big and kind of empty and yet there was lots to do, and a few awesome quest lines. If you went there before you got your mount though, gonna have a bad time.

Try being a Warlock in Vanilla, and having to get your Doomguard. Ugg.

However, since it was optional, I have to say it’s not the Worst, it’s in the top 5,

Worst Zones IMO top 5:

5: Badlands (Vanilla). OP is correct.

4: Silithus (Vanilla), same reasons and less pretty than Badlands.

3: Vashj’ir (cataclysm) - This is the most divisive zone WOW has ever made. You either love it or hate it, personally I enjoyed it, but the VAST majority of players absolutely hated the zone. The hate comes from basically being a swimming zone. Turns out people really hated that gimmick.

2: Shadow Moon Valley (TBC) - Vomit Green, ugly, tough mobs, and required if you wanted Netherdrakes and the Black Temple. It would be the top place, but since it was optional content it doesn’t hit the number one spot.

1: Hellfire Peninsula (TBC) - It was ugly, everyone had to level there, on PVP Servers it was a place for level 70’s to fly in and gank lowbies, as there were choke points where all lowbies had no choice but to pass though. Hellfire made it so people didn’t want to level alts, once you had a 70 with flying, Hellfire was a fly over zone.

Edit: My bad, it was the Doomguard, bad memory at times. The Infernal Quest was on the other-side of the world in Fel Wood, and was actually a lot of fun. Doomguard quest was in badlands, and a massive pain in the Hellfire.

Hellfire Peninsula. That zone just got old quick, but before you could pick the content you were doing you HAD to do it.

Vashj’ir was alright, but the thing I hated was the mob facing could get very wonky if they were slightly above or below. Deepholm was more of a PITA as you had to do that zone and go through the entirety of it to unlock the shoulder enchants.

We’ll go by expansion.

Vanilla: Gotta join in on the Badlands hate. Huge, ugly and nothing to do.

TBC: Hellfire Peninsula. Also huge and ugly, but this time with LOLboars running up to kill you from a hundred yards away. Also, I know this is server specific, but on my server, Thrallmar/Honor Hold were more hangouts for level 70s to kill guards and quest givers than they were actual questing hubs for levelers.

Wrath: Zul’drak. Dreary, unfun quests.

Cataclysm: Vashj’ir. I appreciate that they were trying something new here, but it just really did not work at all.

MOP: I liked all the zones here.

WOD: Gorgrond is awful. No paths, clearly designed for flying before you can actually fly, which is my problem with basically every zone made since 2014 or whenever it was that WOD came out.

Legion: Highmountain is a major pain without flying. Sensing a theme here?

BFA: I didn’t enjoy Stormsong all that much. Too much quillboar nonsense. Tiragarde also had too much pirate nonsense. Supremely annoying quest chain.
