Worst change in the game

For me, it was destroying the goblin slums to put that abominable embassy in.
The slums were my home base. Now theres a big ugly building in the middle of it.

Set yourself up in Azshara, that goblin ā€˜city’ there. It’s just a giant pile of garbage. You’ll love it.

Cataclysm.

  • In Vanilla and TBC, we really were just adventurers exploring a world. WoLK introduced a big bad that had world ending scheme and was central to the storyline. However, rather creating a character with a great backstory like Arthas… Blizzard took from this; Hey we need a big bad that’s going to destroy the world. We need to introduce one every expansion and the stakes have to get higher and higher (mistake)
  • Rather then incrementally improving the world or updating things. Blizzard decided to redo a bunch of the base game. This meant they had few resources for end game content. Players already in the game only got 5 levels to level and very limited end game content. Tons of people left thee game. This also set the precedent of ā€œdont’ update the old contentā€, this again was the wrong lesson… we swung from one extreme to the other
  • Reworking and streamlining the game was prioritized over content. The problem was it was too extreme. Now, the game does need reworking and streamlining, but because Cataclysm swung tooo far that way it made all future expansions swing away from it.

TLDR: Cataclysm focused too much on revamping old content, balancing the game, and reworking things. Not enough effort was put into actual new content. Due to too little old content, the sub count flatlined and started to go down. This caused a knee jerk reaction, leading Blizzard to only create new zones / content in future expansions and not do enough game upkeep and streamlining. Essentially Cata swung too far one way and it caused all future expansions to swing too far the other way. All to the determent of the game.

Biggest mistake in WoW is the subscription model.

Not only does it alienate a lot of players. But it encourages blizzard to design things with timegatting, FOMO, and content that disrespects the players time.

I’m sorry but how can anybody bash M+ when heroic dungeons are the exact same thing except it was either always too easy (wotlk, MoP) or too hard (TBC, CATA.)

M+ as far as I’m concerned is a strictly better system than heroics ever were.

hard to pinpoint a worst change in the game in a sea of potential worst changes

but i’m gonna go with the new model animations, they’re so bad and stinky i just wish we could toggle the og animations

Changing you from some pleb nobody adventurer where the world is the main character, to being the chosen one where the world is just a stage.

too easy (wotlk, MoP) or too hard (TBC, CATA.)

If you had a paladin tank with gear above questing greens you could run TBC heroics like Wrath ones. The only thing that made TBC heroics ā€œhardā€ was because TBC didn’t have Wrath’s ā€œevery class can do everythingā€ philosophy, so classes like warrior couldn’t hold AoE aggro like a paladin, and druids couldn’t rez people if they died.

I hate M+ for 2 reasons which is why I’ve never done one and never will.

1: They made the go go go mentality that already existed 1000X worse. Which is the reason I rarely do Dungeons at all unless I have a quest then I do Follower Dungeons… now that is one of the best things ever added.

2: I HATE all timed content.

Flying mounts,
It fundamentally altered the players relationship with the game world and you can never get that back once that cat is out of the bag.

i like cata, my problem is that we’re stuck in cata’s destruction and we’ve been like 10+ years in-game from that i’d say at this point we need for them to revamp a lot of this game to reflect that we’re passed it already like no ones been working on any of the mess we had from it? i am still waiting on silvermoon to revamp. this is almost where i wanna go into wow 2 so they can have a new engine to do stuff with.

There will never be a WoW 2. :person_facepalming:

Even if there was it would be far far worse than what we have now with the current development teams.
