Worse day playing Classic

I know I’m going to take a lot of flack for this but they took layering out too soon. I just spent over an hour trying to do 1 quest to kill 15 mobs and only got 10. There are way too many players trying to kill the same mobs and others just killing them cause they are bored trying to find their own quest mobs.

Before getting rid of layering questing was just starting to become real fun. No long waits for mobs, wasn’t hard to kill groups. Then they yanked the rug out and now its just boring. Long waits for spawns then you need to be the first one to tag the mob. Classes with insta casts have a huge advantage here.

I don’t know why people didn’t like layering, it made the game playable.

Layering has many downsides and was only promised to last for a few weeks before it would be removed.

Look around and invite or ask for an invite to other players camping the same mob.

Don’t play on a full server if you have issues with the population size.

I think that you can do 20 quests at a time. Perhaps if one is camped heavily do another. I just did 6 quests at a time running around killing mobs…

Edit: and I grouped for some killing ones

Out of curiousity have you tried grouping up? Obviously situations can be quite different but honestly one of the things that makes vanilla what it was is the availability of mobs.

People are encouraged to group up so that they could share mob tags which promote unexpected social interactions and possible friendships.

It can be difficult at times but you just have to persevere. Try different areas, or different mobs for a bit then come back later.

How are you having this issue?, blizz only brought layering down to one layer on med pop servers?

Group up with people. Kill quests its 1/1, loot quests take longer but I can assure you, every single time I grouped people will just grind with you until you get all the drops you need even after they get all of theirs. People grind anyways. People love groups.

If it’s just a kill quest, try grouping with other players on the same quest.

I send out invites, especially for kill quests…even if I’m farming the area. You gotta ask. I even go through the effort of asking these people because the idea of grouping doesn’t even cross the minds of those doing these quests.

OP, you see those other players around? You can group with them. Pretty important feature of an mmorpg.

It does suck, I agree with you. I remember trying to do a kill quest in Redridge and had 3 different groups ninja the kill.

But what everyone else is saying is spot-on; you gotta just ask, “Yo, you doing xxx quest? Word? Wanna group?” Most people will oblige.

I knew this would happen.

First there’s a million threads “Layering was a mistake, Blizzard is fail”

As soon as they remove it “Removing Layering was a mistake, Blizzard is fail”

Two different groups of players

if an area is too congested to quest, go somewhere else. straight up grinding random mobs will grant you more xp than fighting to finish a quest that’s completely packed

There is this amazing and little know feature called “Grouping” that may solve all your problems.

If you need 15 kills on a mob, and others are there too, you walk up them and say the magic words “invite?” and a box will pop up on your screen and you click on ACCEPT, and then, all the mobs you and those guys kill, ALL count for your quest.

I know, it sounds too good to be true, but it is…

/smh geez retail has ruined people’s brains.

my server still has layers i think so much horde though that it seems like the faction ratio is 10/90

If an area is too busy, go quest somewhere else, through most of the game you have 5-6 zones available for questing.
