Worlds of Warcraft

Does this seem to be where we are headed, a galaxy far, far away? Or is it going to be more traveling the different plains of existence?

The concept of exploring multiple worlds in Warcraft has been on the table since before the MMO even launched - Beyond the Dark Portal was a big part of the RTS history, and the existence of the Burning Crusade tells us that there is (or was) a humongous cosmos out there teeming with life.

The Burning Crusade expac was originally supposed to involve going to multiple planets, which probably got recycled way down the line with the invasion points on Argus, or even Argus as a whole. Expansions like Warlords and Shadowlands show us that it’s wholly possible to give us a narrative outside of Azeroth, while still maintaining a connection there in the background.

Presumably, since much of the major expansion speculations have or will already be done now (Pandaria, Argus, the Emerald Nightmare, Shadowlands, etc.), the cosmos is at least on the horizon.

Tel’Abim but it’s a sprawling Island with an entire expansions worth of content.

It’s also where the Botani the Mag’har brought with them ended up. Now, the bananas eat you!

The other side of Azeroth is still a thing as well.

It is pretty mysterious that ships cannot cross the Veiled/Forbidding Sea.

I’m not sure what kind of interesting stuff could be there; maybe some sort of Black Empire remnants? Could also be the Dragon Isles since their location to the west of Quel’Thalas is not canon.

Maybe, but it might be hard to find worlds and cultures that haven’t been stamped out by the Burning Legion. Maybe harsh, husk or broken worlds/environments where life has persisted against odds. I’ve always been a bit curious of the various elements of the Burning Legion (outside of the Eredar) and the worlds they came from.

A lot of TBC implied that there was a whole galactic culture much more interlinked than what was seen, for instance the Ethereals in Nagrand, I believe, have you collecting obsidian shards, which they say is valuable ā€˜on many worlds’, indicating a somewhat uniform currency.

They seem to have either scrapped or soft-retconned that since then, as it’s now heavily implied Azeroth is one of the few civilized worlds left. I believe that Argus was actually supposed to be a whole expansion where we were going to go from world to world fighting the Legion, but instead we got the invasion portals.

Those portals do still show some hints of other worlds, however. While two of them are primordial places of fire and ice, respectively, one has fungi much like ancient Draenor did, and another is much more Azeroth-like, with an implied Wild God present.

On a more serious note, Shadowlands does have me curious to see the other side of the coin. Like, maybe going into the Emerald Dream, through the Rift of Aln, and into the ā€œLifelandsā€, or some such. See the process by which it’s determined what world and race a new soul will belong to. The forging process of how the prescribed souls are shaped from anima. Perhaps something that functions like the Kyrians, but in reverse: beings who usher new souls to their destined worlds. And we’d have a ready-made big bad, since the Void is keenly interested in the Dream and the Rift.

I’m just ready for when this ship goes and clashes with other franchises, I’m hoping for us to be fighting space marines in the future.

(I’m joking I’m joking)

Xel…Naga!

I was thinking something with more chainswords
