Watched some epic world pvp battles last night and it got me thinking about which class I should roll.
I would be playing WoW classic for the leveling experience, world pvp, crafting, and perhaps some BGs. Which class do you all think will fit these rolls the best in particular which, in your opinion, is the best class for world pvp.
I am thinking hunter, mage, or maybe warlock; however I didn’t play in vanilla, I started leveling towards the end of TBC so I am not experienced with world pvp in vanilla.
Any and all replies are appreciated.
I was there in Vanilla, I’ve also been watching the wPvP in streams and its great.
Long story short is both Hunter and Mage are top-tier for wPvP. Imo Hunter is the best for wPvP but Mage is a very close second, Hunter utility in Vanilla is just amazing

Thank you for your reply DRN. I figured it would be hunter or mage. Do you think one has and advantage over the other in 1v1 situation? What about on a large scale battle?
Thanks!
I know this sounds like a total cop-out but honestly you need to pick what suits your playstyle. You can take any of those classes and be 100% viable if you are playing to your natural approach to combat. The more comfortable inside a classes mechanics and restrictions the more you will push them to their limits.

Ok, awesome that is what I was wanting to know. Thanks again for your reply and see you out there in classic…soon…but not soon enough =)
In terms of common world pvp where it’s like 1v1 2v2 1v2 4v4 or whatever, I would have to say hunters are the king of kings. Other classes like shadow priest/SL lock/mages/rogues can be just as strong here but I honestly think hunters can defeat any and all classes if played correctly and even hard counter most of them.
In terms of the epic world pvp you probably saw where it’s 40v40 or whatever number, mages will be the best. Blizzard is just the best aoe period. Constant damage that slows and roots is just the best.
I am honestly in the same boat as you and that’s all I will be playing classic for as I don’t intend to raid and I am rolling a hunter if this helps at all.

Hunter, lock, shadow priest.
That is a good point Gibber, I think I am going to go with hunter. I kinda of like the RP element of it and I have never played one so it would be new to me.

Also, just a suggestion, if this is all you plan on doing in classic is basic pvp and dungeons and stuff… I HIGHLY recommend going engineering. If that’s not what you’re about that’s fine you do whatever, but engineering is just too much fun for world pvp. Having a mages pyroblast and a warlocks fear reflected back at them is just too good.
Ehmna, I was going to go with skinning and leather working cause it seemed to fit for a hunter but eng in classic does sound fun. Do you have a suggestion of what to pair up with eng for a hunter?
Go with the class that fits your playstyle and have the most fun with
SL lock is so good that when equally geared/skilled the lock wins basically every time. Its so good that it usually gets banned in 1v1 tournaments on servers that shall not be named.
Well, me personally, I like just having mining to supply my engineering supplies. Because there are items that you will be constantly making yourself. Ammo, grenades to stun people, scopes, ect.
If you want to go skinning and leatherworking thats fine too!
Personally, I am going to level with skinning and mining just so I can sell the leather and make some nice money as I am leveling to buy my mounts and hold on to my mining mats. Once I hit max level and have my mounts I am going to drop skinning and level up my engineering.
Leatherworking can make you some really nice money if you get some good recipes. But the items you get from engineering and just too fun to pass up for me tbh. For example you get:
-
Ammo
-
Grenades (3 sec stun)
-
Shadow reflector trinket
-
Frost reflector trinket
-
Fire reflector trinket
-
Goblin sapper charge (400-700 aoe damage for WSG flag rooms or whenever people are grouped)
-
Gnomish death ray (massive damage trinket that can literally one shot people if it crits)
-
Mind control helmet (to MC healers in a 1v2 situation and make them heal you)
-
Rocket helmet (instant CC sleep helmet to basically blind someone for a VERY long time)
And many more items.
Some of these you will either have to choose to pick between one or the other because there is gnomish engineering and goblin engineering so you will either have to choose to NOT get some because of what you choose, or level up engineering for gnomish, make all the items you need, and then drop engineering and start over and level up goblin. Which is what I am going to do because classic isn’t going anywhere so I will have plenty of time to level these.
Gold is a premium so while levelling on your first character I would go for two gathering professions like skinning and mining. The main thing is you save the ores, stones, & leathers you need to max Engineering & Leatherworking when you’re 60 (including what you need for your first pre-raid BiS) then sell the rest as your level . When you’re 60 replace the leatherworking with Engineering after you crafted the items you need.

Dang those do sound like so super fun LOL items. Eng sounds like too much fun! Thanks for the post/information on that Ehma. Definitely going to look at Eng and the items offered for gnome vs goblin.
night elf hunter, shadow meld and stealth pet. or have pet dismissed till you emerge from the shadows… no one ever sees it comming…
nice lol…pew pew from the shadows!
Play the class that you like the most. Vanilla wasn’t balanced in 1vs1, a good hunter will win most fights against a warrior, but a warrior + healer (better if it’s a druid) can wreck in wpvp.
Good point, I was just interested in peoples experience since I was not in vanilla. Also I was thinking of larger scale battles, like if certain classes had better spells for those situations like a mages blizzard. Thanks for the reply Megustab!
i was theory crafting a survival+BM build for when warriors get the charge on you first… mwahaha no one suspects the mele hunter!
