Please. The term ‘retail’ to refer to the World of Warcraft game is insulting. The derogatory term was created by the people who went to play classic on private servers, the same people who also broke the law by stealing Blizzard’s property.
Go ahead and use that term, if you want. Of course we’re all free to, but I will not use the term ‘retail’ to refer to World of Warcraft.
The other WoW game is called ‘Classic’…or ‘Classic WoW’.
Blizzard themselves calls it retail. It’s in the files for crying out loud.
Blizz named it that. In the game files it’s labeled as retail right alongside classic. So that’s where the term came from.
Call it WoW, warcraft, BfA, dilly dally, whatever you want if it bothers you that much but the file directory has the name “retail”.

The retail moniker makes total sense though because you buy the game in order to play it. Classic is just a sub.

i only use it because it’s simpler to call it “retail” than say “current wow”.
