World of Warcraft was unable to start up 3D acceleration

Hello fellow players,
so i have mentioned problem while trying to put game into windowed mode OR trying to change monitor.
I have tried a lot of solutions i have found on google, but so far, not so good.

  • Updated Directx
  • Updated GPU Drivers
  • Run game in administration mode
  • “Fix game” in battle.net client
  • Disable Fullscreen Optimizations

Any other solutions i could try out?
THanks in advance

Hey, Brøski! Is this with the Classic client only? There’s been some issues with changing the settings and the game crashing with this error when there’s overlays interfering with the game client.

Here’s a list of common overlays that can cause issues with our games.

Either disabling those overlays or changing the name of the WoWClassic.exe to something else like WoWClassicTest.exe should workaround the issue. To do so, open the Blizzard Application, go to Options > Show in Explorer and under the _classic_ folder change the WoWClassic.exe to something else.

The downside to this is that it does need to be changed everytime there is a major update that resets the executable file, but it should be a temporary workaround in the mean time.

Had this issue after updating graphics. First it began as the graphics driver freezing and recovering while in game. Went in, made sure everything was up to date. After updating GPU the games 3D acceleration refused to start. Try rolling back your graphics driver and seeing if it will start.
