World of Warcraft vs FF14 (specifics listed on post)

It really isn’t meant to be a competitive MMO if that helps at all. At the most the devs will congratulate world firsters and watch the streams when they drop a raid tier but they’ve already said they refuse to allow raiding to become an esports event like it is in WoW.

They’re very particular about keeping the game as casual friendly as it presently is and not wanting players to feel forced into doing content they don’t want to do, or promoting a rush rush rush mentality among players that turns them hostile on each other like with m+.

That said, they do try to encourage it, like they’re updating PvP next patch heavily to be more inclusive for players and less stressful in hopes they can actually have a pvp community and dedicate resources to making pvp better since as it stands, nobody does pvp so they don’t bother with it outside of minor balance tweaks. Ironically right now it gets about the same attention as in WoW, except they’ll tell you upfront “Yeah we don’t view this as serious.” Blizzard tries to say they care about the arena ranking and integrity of the ladder, but will buff a spec accounting for 20% of all players above 2200 because they’re not doing so well in PvE, and specifically buffing the thing that makes them devastating in PvP without even trying to make it a PvE only buff.

To the above, I’m talking 8.3 Destruction Warlocks in PvP. They were 20% of the representation above 2200 and Blizzard chose to buff Chaos Bolt by 13% damage across the board, not just in raiding, but in pvp also, because apparently they needed even more help. Or even just Shadowlands. 5 specs in the game are oneshotting players, they nerfed one of these. Sub rogue got smacked a bit, Fire Mage, Ret Paladin, Boomkin, and Marksman Hunter were just ignored.

It pains me how accurate this was.

FF14. I like both though so whatever lol.

FF14.

WoW. Though to be honest, I’m not sure I really care that much either way.

Both. I like WoW dungeon design better but I like FF14 raids better. What can I say, I hate pointless trash.

FF14. Half of WoW’s armor is still painted on…

Not really sure what this is.

Too vague to answer. What exactly is being implied when it comes to “gameplay?”

FF14. The one that actually has a questing experience, not a waste of time that takes up 3 or 4 hours before you can get to the actual game.

FF14. WoW models have always been pretty janky, sorry. That might be part of it’s charm though.

Lmao, hundreds of hours of a very bland single player experience I guess can be argued as “ridiculous amounts of content.”

As in, it’s ridiculous that you have to endure that much of a slog to get to a comparatively weak end game.

Are you talking about all content in WoW except for the raids and dungeons of the current patch?

At least WoW is finally realizing how weak it’s endgame is and is starting to recycle it’s old content so you have more than 8 dungeons and 10 raid bosses.

Maybe some of WoW’s players will come back!

Now this is a point I will absolutely agree with you on in terms of raiding. I’m glad that previous raids will be relevant again. This is good design, and it’s sad it took this long for them to realize it.

But….modern WoW endgame even today>>>>>>>>>>>>every other mmo out there.

Knee, you made a lot of good points but they are wasted with an extremely long winded borderline troll. Saying this so you don’t feel alone.

Agree to disagree /shrug

It would be pretty easy for them to fix.
FF’s main claim to fame here is that all content remains relevant content. Doing The Epic of Alexander (TEA) is just about as difficult now as it was when it was current. And that holds true for most all versions of trials and raids.

If WoW did the same thing it would bury FF quickly, but so far it hasn’t and it would take some major work on how they handle scaling to do so.

Art design and Aesthetic

Characters: WoW
Environments: FFXIV

Music department

FFXIV has the better music overall, especially in dungeons, but WoW has some great vibe tracks and better tavern music IMO.

Zone design

This one’s tough. FFXIV has better looking zones usually, but WoW zones just feel better. Especially since there’s a smooth transition between zones. Or was until lately.

Raids and Dungeons design

Personally, I like FFXIV’s dungeons better from a casual player standpoint. I also prefer FFXIV’s broadcast system over WoW’s dependency on addons. FFXIV also puts a lot of story in these things.

Armor / Gear Design

FFXIV wins mostly due to the dye system. Both games have really great armor, unless you wear mail…

Quality of Life

WoW is far more accessible in terms of getting set up and it’s miles ahead of FFXIV with its UI (Xmog > Glamour). FFXIV is more accessible in terms of experiencing rewarding content.

Smooth gameplay

WoW wins this category. From combat to movement in general WoW just feels better. I honestly don’t think any other casual game experience is half as fun as playing a Demon Hunter in world content.

Questing experience

FFXIV by miles. It feels like a primary feature in FFXIV. It feels like it’s just a means to an end here. FFXIV feels like if Wrath’s questing experience kept growing, instead of being nerfed over time into some relic of a game the current Devs don’t want to make anymore.

Character Model

Gnomes > Lalafell. That’s all I need for WoW to win.

Lalafell would kill all the gnomes, thinking they were human children.
I absolutely hates Lalas at first, but they are clearly the master race of Eorzea (much like Taurens are for WoW)

  1. WoW
  2. WoW
  3. WoW
  4. WoW
  5. Mostly WoW, but the materia system is so much better than WoW’s gem system.
  6. Can’t say for sure, I’d have to look into this one more.
  7. They’re both fine I think.
  8. FF14
  9. WoW with more interesting transmogs is better, but FF14 has better base models by far.

Art design and Aesthetic - WoW, but looking at a “big picture” landscape, FFXIV does pretty well. Falls apart a lot when you get closer looks, more than WoW. Thee prettiest zone in the current FF xpack is literally a few 100% flat platforms, there’s just lots of flowers and such slapped on it.

Music department - Can’t compare. WoW ALWAYS goes Atmospheric. FFXIV gets praised for its Boss Themes. Both are good in different ways. Although, like most normal bands, FF music sounds very similar across the board (for Boss Themes), which I don’t particularly like.

Zone design - About even (barring the flat platforms thing I mentioned earlier).

Raids and Dungeons design - WoW, by far, which is why WoW is still the best PvE MMO if you care at all about endgame. WoW has more raid content, more dungeon content (at least relevant at once @ endgame - probably about even per xpack by the end since they add a couple in patches), and IMO WoW just does it better to begin with. That said, WoW is always more reactionary (in rotations too) while FFXIV is more set, more of a dance. Different.

Armor / Gear Design - FFXIV by far. Both games have their big gaudy ridiculous sets, but FFXIV has a lot more “normal” options, + the dye system helps it along. Their version of transmog is a godawful mess, so maybe some bonus points for WoW there, but otherwise no. FFXIV armor is also actually 3D, unlike WoW which has SOME 3D pieces mixed with weird skinpaint and warped textures.

Quality of Life - FFXIV by far, but the things people complain about QOL for in WoW just… don’t exist in FFXIV, so not really comparable I guess.

Questing experience - Both are godawful. WoW’s is mindnumbing and they can’t tell a story to save their lives. FFXIV does a good job telling a story but… barely qualifies as content otherwise. It’s literally 90% reading text.

Character Models - WoW wins in diversity, FFXIV wins in the actual models. Helps that they have tons of emotes and facial expressions over there too.

Overall, WoW wins for its endgame PvE, mostly, to me. I like FFXIV but can’t play it for more than a month or two per xpack due to how its endgame works.

Art Design:
WoW it’s not even close. “Realistic” graphics do not age well and the devs even acknowledged that they were embarrassed about the game graphically when announcing their visual update during one of their dev streams.

Music:
I’m personally saying WoW but this can go either way because it’s do you want music that sounds like it belongs in the game or weeb metal. I mean FFXIV has no shame in stealing music too. Sephirot phase 2 is literally a clone of When Worlds Collide and the King Mog trial is This is Halloween.

Zones:
They’re both about the same for me though the invisible walls everywhere in FFXIV is super annoying because every zone is phased into its own instance.

Raids:
lol
WoW and it’s not even close. People cry about DBM and WA but Blizzard designing fights around those addons let’s them create fights that otherwise wouldn’t be possible. Instant combat rather than everything being massively delayed in FFXIV when it comes to boss attacks is a million times better too and it’s not even close.

Armor:
FFXIV auto wins. As long as WoW continues to have painted on armor instead of proper, real, 3D, and even dyable armor it will always be stuck in the past here. SE also doesn’t listen to the small vocal minority that demands censorship and that’s good even though I would never personally use any of that armor.

QoL:
FFXIV I guess? It’s a lot easier to navigate the world when your ability to teleport has no cd with multiple places per zone + the porters in cities though the game not allowing mounts in cities is

Gameplay:
WoW and it’s not even close. Faster gameplay, lower gcd, and instant feedback. With FFXIV everything is super delayed because according to the devs the game was “designed to be played at 200 ping”. I’m sure people will cry “lol idiot there’s off gcd abilities” and yeah that’s true but almost every class except a few is in the 30s for APM which is pathetically slow.

Questing:
Depends on if you care about the story or not. WoW is an MMO first and an RPG second. FFXIV is an RPG first and an MMO second. My side here is WoW because it’s extremely fast to get to endgame which to me is the entire purpose of playing an MMO in the first place. From A Realm Reborn to Endwalker you could literally remove 50% of the quests in the entire game and still nothing of value would have been removed from the MSQ because of how much garbage useless filler pad that only exists to stop you from reaching endgame.

Models:
For me it’s WoW. In FFXIV every single race except the potatoes and wolf boys is literally just a human with different ears and/or tail and the wolfs just get ignored by the devs because they don’t want to create something they can’t copy paste onto another model.

Yeah, right…go to a Sylvanas love thread. They’ll go on and on about how well she was written.

I never once experienced this.

I believe that means improvements the game has made over time. How they’ve improved your “quality of life” in the game. So gameplay improvements overall for you personally.

Cool. I’m telling you I did. Constantly. Spose that’s what happens when you don’t love the story everyone else playing the game does.

Err the threads people make fun of and kill almost instantaneously? She’s kind of like the Zodiark of FFXIV. Some people love it regardless but plenty are disappointed.

Or the Zenos >.> <.<

Couldn’t agree more

Live letter going on right now and they tried showing a little bit of the new extreme but Yoshi P got knocked off the platform almost immediately .

Final Fantasy 14 obviously, unlike WoW whose immersion has its own bias to those who select a certain race and class. Final Fantasy 14’s immersion is universal; due to being an RPG MMO. (Not MMO RPG, There’s an immense difference.)

Lore - FF14
Communication with players - FF14
Gameplay over profit - FF14

Yes, WoW wins in many things. FF14 wins in key things that matter.

I don’t think you realize you’re doing it.

I still see a lot of comments that says “I never really played FF 14. I just saw pictures I didn’t like.” Dude, there’s a lot of western type civilizations in that game…

Art design and Aesthetic: I like both in some cases but as far as the zones and actual cities? FF 14. Their cities were way bigger and felt more like a place people would actually live in. I liked the cities themselves had zones.
Music department: FF 14 for me. I liked their music more and and at times it felt more emotional and conveyed a mood more. I’m not however saying WoW’s music sucks.
Zone design: FF 14 again. Their zones are bigger and felt more real to me.
Raids and Dungeons design: WoW. Though I liked FF 14 ability to die a bit and be brought back more often than in a WoW raid or Dungeon.
Armor / Gear Design: I like F 14s better because I liked some of the detail, though WoW has a better TMOG system imo.
Quality of Life: FF 14 I liked that it had housing, though its hard to get one. I hear a lot of complains about its end game so I suppose WoW might have a better end game? I’m not sure.
Smooth gameplay: I think ff 14 had smoother gameplay in terms of things like lag and such.
Questing experience: FF 14 was a bit of a slog in terms of quests and such but the storylines it had made it more bearable for me.
Character Models: Both have their own designs so I’m not sure. I liked the main or important characters from both games, NPCs who are less important are usually not as well done in any MMO honestly.
