World of Warcraft: Sylvanas is a fantastic story.. but it should've been ingame

No spoilers but why the hell wasn’t this stuff in the game? I haven’t finished it yet but dear god. Hearing Sylvanas tell Anduin her whole story is beautiful. Why wasn’t there more impact of this in the game? I haven’t gotten very far, I’m at Chapter 10 (listening to the audiobook during work!) Hearing everything about her love for Nathanos, her brother which is apparently out there some where and all the struggles that led up to this moment.

This would’ve shown the story leading up to Shadowlands and it would make the conclusion much more impactful (the ending with Zovaal and Arthas were terrible tho!)

What do you guys think? Do you think we need more stories like the novels in game? Do you just not care about the story? LETS TALK!

Because that doesn’t generate as much revenue. Also, the people that are writing the game and the books aren’t the same. What’s more, I doubt they would be able to fit all of that into the game either way.

Man, that was a struggle to type without attacking the trash tier writing that exists in the ga–oh, oh well lol.

Hopefully with all the people that have quit or left, this fans will get much needed change

It would have been nice in the game.
But in the book is fine.

However they released the book too late.

If we had a way of knowing this stuff earlier, it would have improved the story a lot.

Sylvanas was a tragic character.
Then she was a villain.
But then at the very last second they throw in a twist by saying “lol no she wasn’t a villain, she’s still tragic”

It doesn’t work very well at all.

This was vital information we needed at the start of the expansion
Or perhaps even bfa

it is a waste of time to put lot of stories into the game , doing quests feels like chores for players .

nobody read quest anyway too

i wish they made 5000 cinematics to tell the story , it’s way better

Because they can’t put out in-game story content fast enough to tell a good story in-game. I mean, look at how long that sword stuck in Azeroth has been sitting there unresolved.

Time? Lol…all we’ve had is Time for the last two years with the content drought!

But I liked reading the book anyway. :butterfly:

PS. At least some of the stuff should have been in game.

Yeah I’ll never read the book. And they wasted so much time on what was ultimately side quest story lines… much of the covenant stuff… and while I didn’t hate those, in the end it took away from the story they wanted to tell which was Sylvy and the Jailer - and in Game that story just sucked.

Spreading it out over so many expansions, and trying to say it was some hidden aspect of the ongoing lore since the beginning, or at least wrath, just felt cheap.

They really need to pull their crap together, because whatever the hell they are trying to do with story and gameplay just keeps pulling them further apart.

The game doesn’t equal the story and story doesn’t equal the game - making neither feels like it matters in the end.

book was put out as a desperate attempt to save this expansion’s story and justify certain character choices. fact is, it’s very good. but it misses the mark on one detail

Sylvanas finally lets the WoW audience know that the reason she did all the things she did was because she figured out how the afterlife worked. When people die in this universe, there’s no way for them to ever be with their loved ones in the afterlife. She saw this as a massive flaw, and sought to change reality itself. Even the burning of teldrassil was brushed aside because everyone who’s dieing will wind up where they belong with the people they love when her work was finished.

problem is this community doesnt actually give a hoot about justification. most people cheer sylvanas on simply because they’re hurdur “for the horde” types and feel as if Sylvanas doesn’t need any justification for the genocide. they want her to want to kill alliance, for no other reason than hurdur hurdur hurdur hordestrong. this community will be split right in half when trying to appease faction fanboys and the people-who-actually-want-good-lore types at the same time. There’s no winning im afraid.

only path forward for many has been to write wow lore off as a secondary or tertiary reason to play WoW, and look to other games with better lore for a fulfilling narrative experience.

again Christie Golden and only the company having popularity in the books, what is the use of the lore of a book if the lore within the video game is disappointing? first it is its root of the plot in the video game, it should not be only in the book .

And think that most of them are going to buy a book or just read, geez… I want to play and read in an RPG MMO of the video game I did not come to read ONLY a book, and the worst thing is that if they are going to buy all of BLIZZARD, WTF knows download PDF I care, It’s not Tolkien or J.R.R. Martin, it’s just Christie Golden with yet another new book.

My favorite part of the book has to be the magmaw’s wife memes that it spawned.

I dunno, I wasn’t particularly impressed by it.

Before the Storm was my first Christie Golden experience. It was also my last. I will never get back the time I spent reading half of that book before tossing it aside and walking away. I’d be willing to bet that Christie Golden has a secret shrine in her bedroom closet dedicated to Anduin with how much she gushed over him.

The reason it isn’t in the game is because if they put it in a book, people will buy it. So, they make money in the game and out of the game. :woman_shrugging:

I think it’s a complete waste of time and money, since with one or two dev changes the book could easily fall past the value of toilet paper due to retcons.

It’s good to have these stories in the form of a book. It’s fantastic so far, I’m at about half the novel and this amount of detail and emotions could not have been put into the game. I like the addition of novels to the warcraft universe but I can still agree the quality of the presentation and the amount of information could definitely be improved. Still, hope they make many more books, this is my first warcraft book and I really enjoy seeing the story of one of my favorite game in this form.

Thats a tell tale sign that you need to walk away or get over it.

Nailed it.

When I want to play a great video game I log into WoW.

When I want a great story I pick up a book.

Could care less about WoW’s story or lore.

It’s also a tell tale sign that jokes just fly over your head.

Get taller!

Nah I got a pretty good sense of humor tbh.

Neat but you missed it so like I said, get taller!
