World of Warcraft played with a Game Controller

I was looking at some Youtube videos and found some talking about playing Wow with a console type Game-Pad / Controller. It got me to wondering if this was even possible?

On the video these guys go on discussing about the various aspects involved.
Here’s the video:

My question to Wow Players is; Do you think it’s possible to play Wow with a game-pad?
And if it is, or will be. Would you?

And do you think that this may be a prelude to porting Wow to consoles?

People have done this. What they always neglect is that’s it’s at a significant performance deficit.

Someone posted something about this not long ago and apparently the new HUD/UI supports controller usage.

As someone who played using a controller on FFXIV, I found their HUD/UI setup for controllers was really well fleshed out and functional across most things. PvP not one of them as there were so many targets to have to swap to.

That being said, in WoW, it’s just too fast paced and the controller element is new for Blizzard. Having just updated their HUD/UI, I don’t think it’ll be cohesive enough to function well in the beginning. FFXIV’s didn’t either, but they improved over time.

Can’t imagine healing or PvPing using it though. Not at an effective level anyways.

People have raided Mythic with a controller, it’s nothing new.

PvP might be a bit rough, but pveing is great and comfy.

Cannot see Shaman or Monks doing because of bloat but it has been done.

What does this have anything to do with anything? Fast or slow input doesn’t really matter as to your input method lol.

I counted it one day, I can get about 58 easily reachable keybinds on controller when I use it.

It has a lot to do with it. Swapping between targets in PvP to interrupt, AoE placement such as warriors Spear or Leap, etc etc… some of that with keybindings help on a kb/m, but there’s not any room for it on a controller.

Not sure how you think the pace of a game doesn’t impact how a controller compares to kb/m. It’s a major difference in things like FPS too.

Consoleport addon allows you to quickly and easily target anyone, though pvp is more of a problem on controller than pve.

But aside from healing which some people like and some don’t, really nothing in pve, INCLUDING ground targeting is hard or slower with it, nor is there a lack of keybinds on controller.

Problem with fps on controller is accuracy not speed, which this game doesnt’ really need accuracy.

Back end of mythic or first couple bosses mythic? Were they “there” or were they actually valuable to the efforts?

I’m highly suspicious someone performed at a high level on a controller.

I’ve been playing with a controller since BfA. It’s not going to be as precise/responsive as kb/m, but I can raid and do low-mid keys well enough. Also completed all but two of the mage tower challenges with a controller.

I wouldn’t bother in pvp unless you’re doing epic bg’s.

There’s videos of mythic Argus the Unmaker on controller and the guy didn’t slack on dps.

I did specify that the more difficult part of using a controller would be for PvP, not as much for PvE as it is predictable and can be a bit easier to navigate. There is a significant difference of pace in PvP vs PvE. Which is why I said a controller in that environment would not and typically doesn’t fair well.

Spec? Demon hunter?

Ret paladin, though any spec really would work.

Usually where you run into problems is healing. Any dps or tank would have no problems.

Eh… I mean… I can understand that people can absolutely play to an effective level, but no matter how you slice it… a controller will never reach the accuracy/speed of a mouse/keyboard.

It’s sorta like the keybind/click or keyboard/mouse turn debates. Can you do high level content by clicking and keyboard turning? Yeah absolutely. Will you be as fast as you could be with keybinds and mouse turns? Nope.

Can you get good enough using a controller? Yup. Could you be better with a mouse/keyboard? Yup…

There’s nothing slow about a controller though, don’t know why people keep bringing up speed lol

And accuracy is an issue, but wow doesn’t really require a lot of it.

.-. Where is my Principal Skinner meme.

We’re bringing it up because we use it in many iterations and, compared to KB/M, it is typically much slower and limited.

Except… its not.

Only thing kb is faster at is typing.

Keyboard is actually WORSE at movement.

Likely much easier on tanks or dps. Critical target swap’s probably aren’t an issue anymore either with the targeting changes they made. At least for melee.

Most controller vids I’ve seen are healers and it’s comical at best.
