World of Warcraft is Not "Good Value"

I am so beyond sick of hearing that this game is a “good value”. It is not good value in any sense of the word. You pay monthly for the game. You pay for the expansions, which are also more expensive if you wanna play day one. This is a Premium Game. You pay this and log in to see that a name change is $10 and a race change is $25. Mounts that give you an edge in the game are more than an whole expansion itself, $90 for the Trader’s Mount. Which as far as I know you can’t buy anymore, so its a paid Fomo Utility Mount that gives other an advantage over you. A WoW token that takes the entire economy of the game and equivalates it to real world money so the economy doesn’t mean anything anymore. This is good value?

You wanna know what is actually good value? League of Legends, Valorant, Fortnite, Marval Rivals, Overwatch, Hearthstone, Minecraft, Genshin Impact, Honkai Star Rail, CoD Warzone, Path of Exile 1-2, Lost Ark, TFT, Counter Strike, Hearthstone, and many more.

There are a limited number of gamers willing to pay a monthly fee and an expensive Day one expansion for any game nowadays. Every game is fighting for a finite number of gamers out there and to see all these F2P and one time Paid games dominating most of the spectrum out there its absolutely clear why after seeing the state of this game why it is. Because people will always shell out more money even for a Premium Game and Blizzard takes advantage of that and of YOU.

You should absolutely expect to have a great beginning, middle, and endgame for a game at this price. But only Mythic+ and Raiding actually exist for any new or returning player, only the endgame exist. So many collection games out there that are free like. Why would anyone choose WoW over those others that are already free and have a story that you can actually understand?

This game IS and should be treated as a PREMIUM GAME. But Blizzard continues to treat it as F2P with the microtransactions and Fomo content. Its the worst abuser in the entire market of gaming right now and its not even close. It’s Shameful.

Bobby Kotick did say in an interview that they never raised the sub price in the U.S. because of all the microtransactions WoW has, but I don’t really trust him tbh.

man wow subscription this days is hella cheap

i’m playing since 2005, if i compared the 15$ for gold worth in 2005~2006 vs now in 2025? then i was paying equal to 1 gram of gold :stuck_out_tongue: while you are now just paying equal to 1/8 of 1g

The sub has the added benefit of reducing players using zero-investment accounts to treat you and this game like garbage

F2P games have all sorts of cheaters and trolls using brand new emails to just make a new account every time they get banned, in this game at least you would have to pay to do that

$15 a month versus $40 or more in a night of going out I’d say WoW is a great entertainment value.

None of those are a good value to me.
WoW on the other hand is an extremely good value to me

Gatcha games and good value have no business being in the same sentence.

The value of a World of Warcraft subscription is subjective to the individual.

For the amount I play, it’s a great value to me.

$15 for a month of entertainment is pretty good value, but obviously compared to F2P/E-sports titles, which some have effectively “infinite” value, it’s going to fall pretty flat. I would say it’s still better value than buying AAA games every month or so for sure, especially with games heading towards $80 baseline, which is roughly the price for the bulk 6 months sub isn’t it?

Totally agree with u, that’s why I don’t purchase the sub anymore n just use my gold to buy the game time from tokens. With this kind of services, BSing their customers n out right disrespecting our game time , I refuse to let blizzard earn a single cents from me.

Value is subjective.

So making a stand by giving them even more money for your monthly sub, while helping boost time played metrics for the game.

Bro you’re a model customer, you may want to rethink things if you want to stick it to 'em.

So you are telling me in comparison to other $60+ games… you aren’t playing wow as much as them?
And then you also aren’t playing enough to get your $15 worth out of it?

For most of us, that value is returned by logging in for an hour.

You mean full price?
Its not “more expensive”. That is just the price and it goes down as the xpac ages.
This should be common sense.

OP sounded like he had a serious point, but lost it when the bait was made too obvious

WoW may not be good value compared to other video games, but it’s definitely good value compared to other addictions lol

That’s… a terrible comparison.

WoW is very good value when it comes to overall entertainment, but not when it comes to overall gaming, and I’m not counting other F2P live-service gacha/booster pack slop.

Just really good games that can make you spend thousands of hours in them for less than 2 months of WoW. Too bad those are relatively rare, but they do exist.

Of course, that’s subjective, but at least to me, WoW is not that great anymore, just good enough, and I’m fine with it.

If you don’t care for it anymore, just quit.

  1. You don’t have to buy any of that stuff. It’s optional and is not player power.
  2. There is no advantage over anyone to having a mobile AH, nor does it give you any sort of “edge.”
  3. No one has to buy a WoW Token and it was implemented to combat gold sellers who hacked accounts, which turned the economy into real world money in 2004.

Yes. I pay roughly $60 for an Xbox game, that’ll last me a few weeks. Or I pay roughly the same for an expansion that lasts me the entire existence of the game.

The sub fee is for server upkeep, maintenance, that sort of thing.

We’ve got roughly seven million players, chief.

Well that’s just false.

You’ve never played SWTOR or any other MMORPG, have you?

Yeah maintaining that 0.02% laudanum in the air inside the house was getting expensive

I don’t enjoy any of the games you listed as ‘good value’ - I don’t like the style of games (and some of their communities, like LoL, make the WoW community look like a bunch of saints). Those have zero value for me. I don’t have fun playing those types of games. Random games I don’t like playing taking up space on my computer isn’t value.

WoW meanwhile, I have fun playing. Therefore, it is more valuable, even with the costs.
