I love how this game had chest placed around the world in buildings and random places for those that like to explore. They don’t always have cool stuff in them, but there is a chance. I wish the retail version still did stuff like this.

For the longest time, my Dwarf Pally had Treasure Finding (racial skill) stuck on, even long after it was officially removed from the game. There were chests dotted around right up to WoD.

Retail has little cool things hidden all over the place. In every questing zone in BfA so far there’s been interesting stuff to find and discover. If anything, retail has done a much better job of putting nifty little things around the world than classic ever did.
I think you folks are stretching just a little too far to try to prove the whole classic > retail thing. Don’t get me wrong, there’s a lot of things great about classic and I’m having a fantastic time, but random chests scattered throughout the world with random junk in it isn’t really one of them.

I love finding chests, weapon/food/drink crates, barrels, etc out in the world. Adds to the adventure. I’ve always found a valuable in the chests.

i’ve seen many a blue in the chests
I go out of my way to get them, it’s great having things out in the world that give useful items and not just 30 AP and some vendor trash

I never said retail didn’t have chests. I am way to fond of spending an hour trying to solve the “puzzle” to get to said chests for 30 AP. So rewarding. 
Chests in classic have helpful items life food, water, gear. I’ve been holding off on buying more water on my toon because it’s expensive. So water in chests is great.
You mean like the treasure chest scattered throughout the world since legion? Or the achievements for getting all of them in specific zones?
yes the ones that give you like 30 AP, or other pointless things.

I more meant the non-chest items. Sorry, it felt like you thought it was just cool to find… things… out in the world. I like what retail has done with the place in that regard. There’s still neat stuff to find in classic but retail made it more interesting (to me).
No matter which version though, it’s fun when you’re just out wandering around, see an interesting piece of terrain somewhere, and say to yourself, “Hey, I wonder what’s over there!”
Most of the time it’s nothing… but sometimes it’s something neat 
Speaking of chests, loot everything from them so they despawn! You savages.
