There was a pretty big competitive and casual community in Classic. Putting in the effort to get world buffs is what really set apart the hardcore guilds from the casual ones. Because of that, I believe world buffs should still be in the game, but they should be undispellable at the very least.
Purge/dispel griefing was a constant issue hardcore players faced in Classic. People would park low level Shamans/Priests near key locations to just purge as many buffs as they could before they died. It was beyond frustrating because most of the time there wasn’t even any PvP involved; it was purely to grief other players.
Also, dying or wiping during a speed run meant your fun was over for an entire month until the next Darkmoon Faire. So if they wanted to take it a step further to prevent griefing (on the way to raids or even during the raid) they could also make world buffs persist through death. That may be taking it too far. However, making world buffs undispellable and persist through death would likely make them a lot more appealing to casual players and encourage more players to play competitively.
Lastly, I think the Chronoboon should be available in Phase 1 and should be compatible with all possible world buffs. This one is just common sense to me. It would allow players to snapshot world buffs at their convenience, then allow them to continue to play the game all the way until the start of raid. A huge downside to Classic for a lot of players was having to choose between playing the game or raid logging for up to a week.
Get rid of world buffs being usable in raids, period. The content will be more fun when it’s harder…not easier and faster. I really don’t understand why people can’t grasp this simple concept. This is your second post with terrible ideas in it, honestly if they cater to this kind of thing you just get retail…go play retail if you want retail.
That’s your opinion. A lot of people already raided without world buffs because it was a choice. Your opinion is we should take away people’s choices? The reason why private servers were so popular for so long is because people enjoyed playing patch 1.12 with world buffs. Why would I go play retail? If you don’t like world buffs, why don’t you play retail?
I want world buffs removed when you enter any instance. Let them be a world pvp / world boss thing only. I don’t want my new WoW classic experience dominated by world buff nonsense.
I respect your opinion of not liking them, but having played in a few world top guilds in Classic, I can say for a fact that a lot of those players want to keep world buffs. It’s what makes Warriors so fun. If you don’t want them, that’s your choice. Join a guild that doesn’t want to use them or make one yourself. It seems that these forums are dominated by a loud minority like it was with the no changes crowd prior to Classic. Discord and Reddit really killed these forums.
The world buff meta was a pain and I do not miss it. DMT, Heart, Song Flower, Head, DMF when it was open, and all the extra time and alts required for summon parties. Good riddance.
World buffs in raids are for scrubs who suck at their class but want to feel like they are good.
In my guild, you could always tell the good players from the carries after a wipe when all the WBs were erased.
world buffs was toxic AF. We want to play the game, not spend hours collecting them, preserving them, and the use them on easy content that doesn’t even need them.
Make wBuffs fall off upon entering a raid, and increase the number of debuffs a raid boss can have so people can use their full rotation.
If you leave wBuffs in, then you’ll see the same boring thing: page after page of warrior and rogue stacking.
A lot of those players were what makes 2021 wow so toxic, and their absence would not be missed one bit. “Top guild” is meaningless in this conversation.
Presently rolling my eyes at the “made warriors fun” part.
In my experience, and as you can see in this thread, the casual players were the most toxic in Classic. Casual players were constantly complaining about how hardcore players don’t want to play the game the same way they do. And it was mostly the casual players who would actually make time to try to grief the hardcore players. You can believe what you want, but your opinions are not absolute; they’re opinions. Presently rolling my eyes at everything you’ve said.
I got wolrd buffs every week and was an officer in my guild who ranked top parses on my server, and am what most would consider “hardcore”. World buffs literally ruined classic, along with boosting and endless waves of bots that blizzard did nothing about. These things NEED to be addressed or fresh will be dog poo…the community at large agrees on this and YOU are in the minority here.
I think that the removal of world buffs does still support speed running, it’s just that your records are different
Having said that, it’s worth respecting that people enjoyed using the buffs to push further. It doesn’t really hurt the game as much to keep them in, but to be smarter about it or even make them more accessible.
I would be happy if they were removed, but if they’re going to be kept, I think your suggestions are a really great way to make them a more positive experience
I was an officer in two of the world’s top speed and world race guilds, with a rank 14 Rogue and a rank 12 Warrior, and got full world buffs including WCB on Alliance twice a week for both characters. I played on large, active servers where the majority of the players were hardcore. There were a few casual guilds that didn’t get buffs, but they were the clear minority.
If you really believe that the majority of players don’t want to get world buffs, then what’s the issue? Just join/start a guild that doesn’t require them in Fresh, and compete on the no world buff category on warcraftlogs. Either way absolutely nothing changes for you. Since you believe players who want to get world buffs are the minority, it shouldn’t affect you at all.
Back in vanilla, “hardcore” guilds were not sweating out every WB they could. They cleared content because they were better at their classes. Calling players “hardcore” in classic is the height of comedy. Have some shame, for goodness sake.
Seriously already, stop misusing the term “hardcore”.
I cleared Naxx in vanilla so I know. I only remember really using them for Sapph and KT. However, the playerbase has evolved a lot since then. I never played private servers so I didn’t see the content again until Classic, and I really enjoyed the extra min/maxing people learned.
I think that’s the charm of playing Classic over and over. You take what you learn from the previous run throughs and apply them to the next or you try them from a different role to mix things up. Sure, hardcore can be subjective, but it’s not worth arguing over semantics.
No doubt. Now they cannot cope unless they have every single advantage and crutch against the 16 year old content. It is like they are all entering a marathon, and rather than running under their own power and skill, they are all piling into their mom’s minivan like Eric Cartman. Then when over the finish line first, they point and laugh at those who were too lazy and not dedicated enough to get their mom to drive them.
