World and Home latency super high, super lag issues and constant disconnects

As someone also reported above…I fixed my latency problem by activating my VPN although it significantly reduced the number of disconnects, I still get one or two disconnects in an hour.

P.S. I am also using Ezee Fiber (Houston) ISP.

Yep I think it is Ezee Fiber also. So many folks on Reddit have reported issues with the game once they switched over to Ezee Fiber last week.

Here is one thread on Reddit in the Ezee Fiber forum about issues concerning gaming and using CGNAT and changing their addresses that might be the causes of this. https://www.reddit.com/r/EzeeFiber/comments/1iwl0a0/my_experience_of_online_gaming_on_ezee_fiber_last/
https://www.reddit.com/r/EzeeFiber/comments/1jocrsu/great_customer_service_but_lucky_i_didnt_cancel/
And one other post on this:https://www.reddit.com/r/EzeeFiber/comments/1ir8zgl/how_is_ezeefiber_for_gaming/

Thanks for doing this, I followed your suggestions and sadly nothing using those commands pops up in the command prompt, both in game and at char select screen. I wonder if there’s a step I’m missing?

Just called Ezee Fiber they have been in contact with Blizzard. Ezee Fiber was told by Blizzard that “We are currently undergoing a DDoS attack that is impacting certain subscribers.” Ezee Fiber said they are actively working with Blizzard. I will keep reviewing and calling, if need be switch to alternative Internet or proxy to see if it helps at all

Yeah that is what they keep telling me everytime I call also. But the latency thing started a week before the DDOS attack and there are a ton of reddit posts on Ezee Fibers own forum that are talking about the switching customers to CGNAT and how that has impacted peoples ability to play certain games, WoW being one of them and how its caused high latency issues and constant disconnects. I have been playing fine for almost 2 years since I got Ezee fiber and apparently they did recently switch me over to the CGNAT address. I am seeing more posts from Ezee Fiber customers about this than from people who are not Ezee fiber customers.

We also live in Southeast Texas and have Ezee Fiber and 1Gpbs Internet… Always at 30ms or less for home and world in-game. Yesterday - it started spiking consistently to 1500ms plus - making the game unplayable… I tried everything — scan and repair — disable all add ons — flush dns — rebooting router ---- pc ---- Mac — even reinstalled the game… NOTHING worked. I opened a ticket with Blizz and they acknowledged all my steps were perfect - and the the problem was on their end from DDOS attacks… They are actively working on it but they advised to try a VPN client to a different location - and suggested perhaps Chicago or LA. I do have a VPN provider and connected to a Chicago server and it immediately solved my issue… I went through a. full m+ 9 and had normal latency of 30ms or less… Problem solved - though let’s hope Blizz fixes the issue permanently. I use Surfshark - and it just works now. Hope this can help some of you. Blessings ~ BuckyBull

That is so weird, didn’t Blizzard just post that they got the DDOS issue resolved? Hrmmm…

Buckybull is correct.
I also have started using my VPN client connected through Chicago, have 34ms latency.
I have been able to stay connected without any problems.

What I would really like to see since we’ve had so many comments here is Blizzard / a Blue post here and provide feedback.

Is there known issues with routing, a DDoS attack, an ISP, or something else. They’ve had plenty of feedback from the community and as far as I can tell haven’t responded to anything other than Hardcore.

Basically, without too much technical knowledge myself, it’s a routing issue that might be the cause. It might not be the ddos itself, but the network configurations that occur to mitigate. Hopefully the larger issue will resolve as net table updates propagate across the networks.

Did you ever get a resolution? I am also in the Houston area with EZFiber as my provider. This has not been as issue until after yesterdays patch. I’ve tried many other games to make sure it wasn’t my connection and everything worked fine. I’ve done everything i can. Every youtube video reinstalls, etc. I can play for 5 mins or less get a huge lag spike and then DC. I asked my guild and no one else was having the issue. I submitted a ticket. But i have no idea if they will fix it.

Not yet, though I have a personal tech now who I’ve updated on everything here. Awaiting their call-back here for the next couple of hours.
So far it seams the fix for us in the meantime is to use a VPN of some sort, I’m looking now for a free one b/c this is clearly a recent issue with Ezee fiber that they should fix. There’s enough of us pissed off here to force their hand.

So to make sure im understanding correctly the problem is with EZfiber? Or is this a wow server side issue

Right now we don’t fully know… One one hand it could be an Ezee Fiber issue with their CGNAT but if that’s fully the case, why is only WoW effected with all my games?
Blizzard is also telling Ezee that it’s the DDoS that’s to blame but that’s been a problem that’s ongoing now for a bit. Did their servers suddenly block this ISP? We don’t fully know yet.
So far the only fix seams to move your region outside of Houston via a VPN while we wait for the Engineers to get their stuff together.

Without being an expert myself, according to what most have said and my own WinMMTR trace there seems to be 100% loss at what I believe is Arelion which is a t1 provider in Ezee Fiber’s upstream network (as far as I know). Aside from the occasional and isolated issues you hear about here and there or from the DDoS attacks, this specific issue with Ezee Fiber started Tuesday morning right after the update. We don’t know who’s end the issue is on but things worked well before with Ezee.

I can speak from my own experience and being in IT. Here is what I know:

Ezee Fiber
I’ve had Ezee Fiber now for well over a year. I’ve only had two issues which was related to a bad SFP module, and a bad modem.

Could this be an issue specifically with Ezee Fiber?
Sure it could and they could be passing the buck, or they could be relaying the information that they were relayed from Blizzard.

Is this impacting other ISPs or just Ezee Fiber?
It is impacting some Comcast customers, confirmed by people who are online now and playing to some degree. Not all Comcast customers, just some.

Focused specifically in Houston areas in Texas?
Mostly from what I’ve seen yes, but some outside of the Houston areas.

Running Traceroutes, Netstat, and WinMTR
These are producing/showing inconsistencies in routing, dropped packets between destinations, and transitions to different subnets in Europe (which I would suspect to be load balancing or a failover scenario for Blizzard)

Could it be a DDoS attack?
Depends on what / where the attack is hitting. If its hitting Blizzard servers they could be rolling over to failover scenarios, rerouting traffic, etcs to mitigate attacks.

If its hitting an intermediary or something in-between like a service provider or a global router then that can cause these issues as well.

Could be BGP poisoning from routers as well causing havoc.

Running VPN with a proxy in Chicago fixes my problem
This means that there is an issue with an outage, routing, or DDoS that could be impacting routing.

Again none of this points to a single root cause only a few scenarios that lead to this root cause. Blizzard should come out with something explaining the situation.

Update 1507CST Houston time, been connected now for 20 mins w/o any DCs with a steady 38MS up/down in Dorn.
First time staying online this long in over 24 hours so… Progress!

Glad to hear it, I may pop off my vpn and giver a go.

I’ve been connected for about 15 minutes straight and no issues or latency. Keeping my hopes up they’ve resolved the issue.

Update at 1630: Hour an half in game with no DC’s!
Knock on wood were in the green, but with tonight being a raiding night, I won’t say it’s fixed yet! xD

This is categorically untrue! There is no attack as the time of your post 4 hours ago. Whomever told you that at Ezee Fiber does not know what they are talking about. I’m literally on the phone with a data center tech at Blizzard. I’ve been playing WoW with him and several other Blizzard people for 20 years. No offense. Amazing how ISPs blame others.
