Hi, never really tried warlock before, and I’m interested in levelling one up. I’ve heard warlock as a class has very little mobility, would Worgen be a good choice due to Darkflight? Would the extra 40% movement speed sprint be a meaningful QoL racial? Going to make an alliance warlock. Will mostly be doing casual PVE and PVP on it.
nah locks have an adequate amount of mobility. but yeah i mean… worgen increases mobility…
Is it comparable to DK? I’ve got an Orc DK and often thought the worgen sprint would be a big quality of life change.
It’s a pretty sizable QoL change. You’ll still want to make good use of gate and demonic portal but extra movespeed as a lock always feels extra nice.
I have been playing primarily lock and DK and I will say that no class besides maybe a priest has ever felt as slow as my dk. My lock can move pretty fast especially with the talent https://www.wowhead.com/spell=111400/burning-rush that gives you a “permanent” sprint.
And you get used to setting down your demonic circle (very low cd) in anticipation for your future movements, as well as the demonic gateway though the cd is longer on that.
Worgen have funny cast and channel animations to me if they’re male.
Funny in melee too if they’re male.
Lore wise, one of the strongest warlocks ever is a worgen.
Pvp wise, best bet is human, dwarf. Not going to make or break the game for you though.
I think male worgen casting stance looks really cool.
I almost swapped from Gnome to Worgen before settling in human. Only reason I went human is because helms and some transmog looks bad on Worgen in my opinion and the whole reason I wanted to race change from Gnome was to enjoy transmog more.
Warlocks are pretty slow, even if they would seem fast on paper. Part of this is because both baseline mobility options are pretty poor for forward movement. What I mean by that is neither spell is going to help you get from point A to B unless you’ve already prepared the route, which itself takes time, or are using Gateway to cross impassable terrain.
Burning Rush is a great talent and is used often in M+ and raids but for questing and world content, especially early in the expansion, you are almost never going to swap out of Demon Skin. It’s an incredible boost to your survivability and allows you to have little to no downtime at all. In PvP, you will mostly be taking Dark Pact.
So it depends on what you want to do. I would first advise you to pick a race you like for aesthetic reasons. Racials have almost no impact in PvE unless you are pushing the very highest tiers of content, something only 5-10% of the player base really does. They have greater impact in rated PvP but mostly just arenas and only the very highest ratings there as well.
If you like Worgen, go for it, you will absolutely not regret Darkflight. Being a werewolf is cool as hell anyways.

An extra sprint is always nice. If you’re gonna be serious about your pvp go human; if just having fun worgen will do just fine.
I always have 20-40 speed potions on hand in BGs being a creaky old dead guy. Seriously though, potion boosts are an option if worgen is not your call.
I’m more about aesthetics when choosing a race. I could never play a worgen because of the way their snouts distend helmets. Otherwise, they would make great warlocks due to their crit bonus and sprint.
