Worgen Transformations

Look, I’m starting off saying I know this will get hit with quite a bit of harsh feedback from people but I’m just going to leave my thoughts here.

In the years since the Worgen being added it’s safe to say that some may have been able to find a way to live as more man than beast (remaining in human form rather than being in worgen form even in stressful situations like combat), and this thought has only compounded more since the addition of the heritage armor (which let’s face it, it looks far better on the human model over the worgen model). And it makes me wonder if Blizzard will ever give worgen players the option to have their character willingly transform between man and beast instead of being forced to once combat starts.

I actually don’t have an issue with this idea. Maybe they could have an incentive being in worgen form during combat. Like you’re at 75% stats when in man form or something. IDK. But it would be kind of cool. One of the things I like about playing a worgen is the whole shifting back and forth thing.

Simple. Lots of RP potential. Innocent. And doesn’t effect the gaming experience of anyone else who couldn’t care less about this feature, someone like me. I like this idea. Hear! Hear!

You have my vote.

Sounds great, I mean I don’t have anything against it. What bothers me the most is that we wear armor in werewolf form, transforming animation is a total joke and the drop to all fours thing is just so horrendously done and reminds me that I’m actually a human trying, badly I might add, to mimic a werewolf.

I would be ok with it as long as its optional. My gripe with it is your no longer human. Why play a Worgen if your not going to use the more powerful form. One thing blizzard fails to show in Worgen is how much of beast they really are. Did you know Worgen are 8 feet tall in Lore? Right now in game they are 6 foot 10 inches tall for some unknown reason. While yes the Worgen form is a curse its a powerful form that should be respected. But right now its nothing more than a smaller form of what it should be. Worgen are meant to be imposing beasts. Maybe one day Blizzard will give us a lore friendly size, and the curse will make more sense.

My god.

Why are you picking Worgen if you don’t want to be a Worgen?

Do you just want the Gilnean accent on a human? I don’t understand this at all. It’s like if I picked Pandaren but complained about having to be a pandaren and not, say, an Elf or Human.

You kind of missed the point, it’s not “I want to be a human” it’s more “I want to control when i transform instead of being forced to the moment combat starts even if I’m just passing by hostile mobs.”

Eh, I mean … kinda…

I’m playing a worgen hunter. Worgen kind of look silly shooting a gun. But I like the shape shifting concept and Gilnean’s are cool (I do like the accent). I don’t mind it being a think that you have to be a worgen in combat, but I also wouldn’t mind if they made it more of an optional race mechanic.

So maybe stay human until you take dmg? Personally I hardly ever use the human form but I can see it from the perspective that say a hunter whos not in direct combat would want to use either form.

But there’s no mechanical benefit to being in one form or the other, so if combat didn’t force you into your Worgen form, would you ever enter it? Like, for real.

And this isn’t me campaigning for ‘lets make Two Forms a mechanical thing’, this is me going ‘why are you complaining about the wolf part of playing a wolf-person’. I mean, I hope they add Gilnean and Kul Tiran accents to Human, but this kind of misses the point of playing a Worgen. At this point you’d just be playing a Human with a crit bonus or access to Druid.

Maybe do it like being flagged for pvp .

You start of in human form and once you engage into combat you go to worgen for. Once you end combat you have that 5 min cool down before you go back to human form .

I know there is a button for the change but make it so it does it automatically over time.

I’d still play both. I play both now. Combat forces me in to worgen and I stay there while I’m questing and even use the running around on all fours mount movement. When it’s time to go back to a city. I like to shift back to human and use a horse.

It’s an interesting mechanic.

Now, what if combat didn’t force you into Worgen form, as in you had to click a button to transform before a fight. Would you ever actually click that button?

But, that’s not it either. This feels like trying to solve a problem that, by virtue of definition, shouldn’t be a problem. The big defining point of Worgen is that you’re going to be a wolf-person. If you’re not down to clown with being a wolf, then assuming Human gets Gilnean accents, why not just pick Human?

Truthfully, yes I would in fact use the worgen form still, as I said I’d just like to see more control over when the transformation happens. I mean look at Greymane for example, there are plenty of instances where he takes part in a fight while in human form for a time then switches into his worgen form. (Yeah yeah story character get speeshul treatment.) But that also proves the point that some will have greater will to control the curse than others is all I’m getting at.

I’ve played worgen in the past and honestly I have no problem staying in wolf form .

I was offering an idea for those who would like to use both forms . Kind of like how Genn does. Human out of combat and worgen in combat.

Yep. I would hit that button. I like the shape-shifting. You’re the one making the comment that the worgen form wouldn’t be used. All worgen players on the thread seem to still really like the worgen form, but just want some more control over when you shift.

It befuddles me, it really does. Again, it feels deciding to pick Pandaren, and then complaining about being a panda.

You seem to be the only one who sees it that way. As Aelody said we all still are willing to use the form, we just want more control for when that transformation occurs.

I’m also just worried about Worgen essentially becoming Human 2.0 in that case. If the change isn’t forced, then what’s stopping people from just treating it as ‘crit-based Human’?

Accept that’s not a good argument since shapeshifting isn’t a key function/lore of the pandaren race.

You mean except everyone here basically saying that they’d still play worgen and just want more freedom of choice?
