Worgen Paladins

Make it happen Blizz cuz I said so. In lore, Worgens were a weapon against the Scourge.

Pretty sure there’s a lore reason why worgen can’t weild paladin powers…

Worgen are humans after all. What if someone who was already a paladin got afflicted by the curse?

In history there are Vatican records of Benandanti Werewolves. These were people that claimed to be werewolves that fought demons and witches, the Malandanti, for God. The church often tried them for heresy. But there is real life history that supports the fantasy of a Holy Werewolf, thus Worgen Paladin sounds cool to me.

There were no Paladins in Gilneas to turn.

I’d figure that after Gilneas’ incorporation into the Alliance, someone would show the worgen how to be paladins. I dunno. Maybe it’s not really a teachable thing? Or perhaps there’s something inherent about the worgen curse that would prevent them from fully becoming an instrument of the Light?

The only thing I could think of is if there is a definite connection between Elune and the Void as some speculate. If there isn’t then I don’t see why a Worgen couldn’t be faithful enough in the Light to become a paladin.

Someone correct me if I’m wrong. But being a paladin makes one immune to curses and disease right?

((Lorewise, not gameplay))

In D&D settings, it makes you immune to disease once you’ve leveled up a few times.

This isn’t really the case in WoW, as you can still get Poisoned, Diseased, Cursed, ect.

Did a quick search. WoW Paladins are immune to disease. No mention of curses.

So either it’s possible from training or the Worgen Curse isn’t a curse, but a disease.

There’s no lore reason they couldn’t exist outside of none being trained in that manner. Which, can definitely be resolved since they’re now apart of the Alliance.

That’s why I think there’s something else going on. In order to be a paladin, you basically have to let the Light use you as its instrument, right? Well, it’s possible that you have to have the right sort of mindset or mental state in order for the Light to agree to use you in the first place. The worgen are a very angry people, and that’s not a quality you want in someone who’s supposed to be a paragon of goodness, so perhaps the Light just rejects them as a whole.

What about that one guy in Icecrown that we get sent off by Tirion personally to try and cure?

There was lore that Paladins were immune to the plague. That was retconned, as was shown by the Icecrown dude. As for diseases and curses? I don’t know.

I think his story was retconned.

That’s just awesome!

The Light doesn’t judge. You just have to have faith in your conviction. Or something.

Well the Light does require a strong will. Maybe the beast side of Gilneans prevents them from becoming Paladins for that reason. Or, maybe Paladins are still immune to diseases and/or curses (but not the Plague.) Or maybe it’s because Gilneas didn’t have a Paladin order.

And don’t @ me about Priest. Priest =/= Paladins. If you’re one of those people that thinks they’re the same thing, show me a Paladin’s Shadow spec.*

*Btw this isn’t directed at you, Autai. I know there’s GD posters out there that think any race that has Priest should have Paladins because “lol they’re the same thing!”

Unless this has been retconned, they are immune with that one Paladin questline in Icecrown as a counter, but you and i both believe it was retconned due to it being a tribute quest.

That’s a good arguement. The Worgen not being able to infuse themselves with the Light due to a lack of focus (in a sense). They’re not all there in the head so they can’t push themselves to being the embodiment of the Light.

This is probably what it truly comes down to (ultimately). It’s probably the same scenario as with Goblins and Worgen monks.

Sidenote, a Worgen with Light infused claws sounds dope to me.
