Hi, I know worgen monks are a race/class combo released under the new philosophy blizz is using. I suppose it is up to the community to justify and discuss about the lore explanations for these new class combos.
Given the material we have ingame, what are your toughts on the matter? Do you have a worgen monk?
Currently debating a worgen monk for an Alliance main!
The way I choose to see it is that the discipline and inner peace that come with being a monk could be a way for them to help deal with their inner beast. I donât imagine there would be a lot of worgen capable of it, but with a lot of practice and a strong will, coupled with the teachings of the way of the monk, I could see it working feasibly well for those strong enough.
Alternatively as an explanation, perhaps the discipline of the form of fighting could help them simply channel their inner beast/rage in a more restrained and focused way, a less âferalâ and more focused way of using their body as a weapon.
Just as a side note, I think it would be cool for there to be a glyph that let worgen choose to use their claws and teeth in addition to the more traditional punches and kicks.

Scarlet Crusade had monks back in vanilla, I think itâs safe to assume the rest of the church probably had them as well. I donât think a worgen monk would be much different from a worgen priest.
Given that Monk has been a class that has been taught to just about everyone since the beginning I donât really see a reason for any sort of special justification for Worgen, at least if youâre sticking with the Pandaren version of it.
If chronology is a concern, there are many years between Monks becoming a widespread thing in universe and them becoming playable to Worgen. While I donât tend to care for or encourage retconning, I wouldnât be put off by it this case to say that Worgen in universe always had the opportunity to become Monks at least. There was never anything stopping them in universe; the Pandaren donât seem to discriminate when it comes to who they pass that knowledge to.
Anything more seems to be more of a personal matter, individual character motives, and the like; not often the sort needing this kind of discussion.

Honestly? Iâve felt thereâs been almost zero justification as to why they couldnât be monks to begin with other than Blizzard not giving in-game access to them. As far as I know, there was no official spoken line from a worgen about how âOh the beast curse is so untamed that I couldnât possibly be zen enough to be a monkâ. It was more OOC knowledge that Blizzard just maybe had some jank rigging going on with the animations.
Even with Goblins, the gob squad scenario in MoP showed that the animations worked, it was just a low-priority addition to add to the game.
When it comes down to ANY class and race combo, I tell people to always go for it. So long as you can right a feasible motivation, you can make it work.
Undead Paladin?
Blood Elf Druid?
Every argument Iâve heard against them being accessible has plenty of counter arguments as to why they SHOULD be playable. We have in-game lore examples of out-there classes working, itâs just a matter of the developers not letting us use them now because they want to package them as a feature later.
I mean hell, that was LITERALLY one of the selling points of Cataclysm - opening up new race and class combinations. If you canât think of a reason why itâd work with the lore, Blizzard will provide one for you. Iâm hoping to see more class/race combos open up because despite folks saying that ârestrictions foster creativityâ, nonrestrictive creative potential can create so much more.
Iâve got plans for an undead druid with a focus on fungal growth as a thesis for his research and a worgen paladin who seeks to regain his faith with the Light the MOMENT those options are available.
Make your worgen monks and THRIVE, gurl.

Why? Why do you feel the need for justification? It exists⌠itâs justified. Classes arenât a lore thing. Theyâre a game convention like the in game portals and resurrection spells. Most lore characters, especially the major ones, canât be conveniently pigeonholed into one class/spec box.
