Word of warning: Pay no attention to which specs are overperforming the first 2-3 weeks

First two-three weeks especially any overperforming specs will be hunted and beaten into submission with the nerf machete.

Just ignore any streamer that says play XXX Spec because its pumping. It will not by the time M+/raid releases.

Not exactly true. Depends on the reason its performing the way it is as in is it an intended interaction or not. For example take NF hunter in sl with the legendary that double dipped. Unintended interaction didn’t get fixed till the .2 patch. You also need to look at does a % change to x affect y or is x on top of y with some z and a little bit if w on top that determaning factor?

I just hope they give us Outaws some love soon after release. Also, rogues in general.

I play what I find fun. I don’t care what’s the “best”. I’ll always play what I enjoy. Same reason with Shadowlands I took whatever covenant I wanted to theme them with. And with “hero” spec, I will pick the one I like the best.

Better yet, don’t pay attention to what anyone says and instead play a class/build that you find fun (homebrew something), rather than trying to squeeze out every bit of DPS because some meta-hog ran simulations until they got bored to find out which spec was outperforming.

How can I know anything when I don’t even know the proc chance to do 1% more damage? Therefore I can’t pay attention because it’s all subjective.

I rest my case.

Luckily I don’t watch streamers.

I’ve decided to main H Priest this expac. Going to be interesting for sure.

I ignore them anyway .

It’s funny that you think this.

Yeah. Agreed. But on a unrelated note thats usually my approach for a new game coming out. Wait a week or two, for some patches to make it playable. I would love to sit TWW’s first couple weeks out but in an MMO, if you fall back its hard to play catch up, or at least it is for me when I like to play other games sometimes besides WoW. : /

I dunno what sick deal with the devil, or a twisted monkeys paw, or some sacrifice or oath to a Great Old One you have to do to be able to do whatever you want, whenever you want and still keep up like some do, but its clearly out of my range.

A computer with perfect play can always tell you what will sim the highest. But it can never factor in how an individuals mind and muscle memory works. Some classes work better for certain players than others.

In the end it’s about what tool you feel comfortable with.

First, you don’t beat things with a machete. It’s a chopping tool.

Second, we just watched VDH absolutely dominate the tank meta for 2 straight seasons even though everyone knew it should be nerfed. There’s no way to predict what blizz will nerf and what they’ll leave OP.

You don’t want to know what you have to do… it’s unsettling…

Beaten by the keen edge of your intellect.

Balance teams are unpredictable. But I always hope they let things settle naturally, and buff the underperformers on priority. Bring the bottom up, and then knock everyone down evenly (or buff the monsters). It’s all relative.

Unintended interactions should be corrected in major patch revisions unless invalidating a core game loop (e.g., four blood death knights running M+ faster than traditional group compositions should probably get broken mid-season). Failure in foresight gets projected to players, and that’s where the ol’ FunDetected™ comes in.

They are much more willing to do bigger nerf/buffs in the first few weeks of an expac than they are later on

I got lucky (or unlucky) in that my three “main” classes are all in a good spot. (Mage, Evoker, Shaman)

Sadly for me our raid signups are a bit full on healer, but luckily for me Arcane’s rotation no longer hurts my noob brain so I can do that and frost and have an option depending on how I feel.

I’m a pretty average player and my guild only does heroic so luckily it doesn’t really matter one way or another unless they nerf one of my specs abysmally
