For making furniture for player housing
It would be instantly dead. People just don’t buy 1 time items and cosmetics in enough volume. Look at the engineering toys- they sell less than 1 per day on average. Unless you add player power to the profession it will never be profitable, so nobody will do it. Add some items to the existing crafts, sure. But there no room for an profession there.

No reason to be sorry, really. You had a proposal/idea, Amataur voiced his arguments for it to be non viable. My opinion of player housing does not help me to disagree with it. But no need to be sorry!

So what’s interesting is that blizzard might be working on it already. In the treasures you gather for skinning is an “Arathi Craftsman’s spokeshave”. A spokeshave is a woodworking tool used to make rounded corners like …ahem… spokes in a wheel. There was also “Earthen workers beams” which was depicted as a pile of wood.
Clearly they had been thinking about it … but didn’t implement it for TWW.
I think blizzard devs are less interested in “will this profession be profitable” as they are “will this be cool”.
They’re interested in “will this be an enticing things for players to do”, which for crafters includes being profitable. They haven’t added an profession since wrath. They’re unlikely to now, especially without AC viable easy to make money on it, which is important to them. If they were to do something like that, it would most likely be added into inscription, which already makes staffs
So I wouldn’t discount the profitablity so soon. It really depends on how they implement it.
In FFXIV, furniture almost always sold. People were always remodeling their spaces. Also furniture patterns and the materials that made them were rare and extremely varied. So you could be the only one on the server that had the pattern. You got the patterns and materials mostly from doing maps (8 man party dungeons … Uh… Hard to describe… Like a cross between a dungeon and a casino?? Super fun).
Also idk I made over 300k just today (hooray for spark today) … I do love me some profits… But I would totally level and make woodworking stuffs even if it didn’t make me a profit. I would just make them for fun you know?
