I had the same issue… restart worked.

Standard patch troubleshooting:

Step 2: Restart computer if Step 1 does not work.
Step 3: digs through ancient Emails. Clear the battle net cache files.

Whenever I have that error, 9 times out of 10 going into Task Manager shows the WoW Voice Proxy process is going, ending that process and trying again usually fixes it for me. I dunno if that’s your issue though

This always fixes it for me. So now before I try to update I close out the WoW Voice Proxy and other Blizzard processes.

Haha, that reminds me…

I was running a scan and repair when I saw this comment, so I stopped the voice proxy and I was able to update. Not sure if the voice proxy or the scan allowed me update but one of them did the trick.

The game is still down until 3p.m. trying to go online? you can’t, Retail Bfa is still offline until so

I found that it’s usually the voice proxy running on my machine from a previous play not being shutdown properly.

When I get this issue I close the voice proxy through the task manager and then wow updates fine.

Not sure if this works for you, but it works for me!

They could solve the problem by actually letting us disable it entirely, but then I guess we couldn’t have the joy of being spammed with the “disconnect/reconnect to the voice proxy service” messages.

Omg tyvm for stating this! This fixed my problem and it’s been plaguing me for months.

Just have to say thanks for this.

For the longest time, I have been “fixing” the update error by restarting my computer. That works but I decided to try closing the voice proxy and it worked as well without the restart.

The actual problem is that the wow proxy server opens multiple copies of itself that never close on their own when you close the app or the game. All that is needed is to open your task manager and close every wow process. Then it will update fine without any need to reboot.
