Wondering classic vs retail

Just saying what if classic pulls away more people away from retail and starts taking over? I mean i wonder if this is in the back of anyone else’s mind.

Not trying to argue. Just wait if. What happens to retail wow then?

I think at this point, we just have to wait and see.
But it could lead the way to a shift in philosphies in retail wow if Classic is that much sucessfull.

They’ll start bringing out expansions for Classic obviously.

Cant wait to play as a Blood Elf. I heard they can be Paladins on Horde!

^ This. So much this. Never thought I’d say it, but I can’t wait to have ammo, the dead zone and having to feed my pet to keep it happy.

Same thing happened to Runescape when OSRS overtook it, RS3 is still running but it has a tiny playerbase now and they’ve monetized it harder and harder to compensate.

They basically go mobile strategy and start making the least effort content for the most /played time or money spent possible (your money, not theirs).

Can’t justify a huge budget and the same quality if your revenue starts to tank.

There’s far too much theorycrafting and buzz around Classic’s beta to surmise anything right now. When it’s released and the initial euphoria of playing the original game is gone, a lot of those predicting retail’s demise are going to realize just how much more basic, tedious, and hyped up the vanilla game is, and a surprising number of players will abandon it.

Also, in the alternate universe where Classic surpassed the retail game, you can bet all the kittens in Korea that it would stop being a labor of love and be turned into a product that turns a profit.

The positives of Classic do not outweigh the negatives. There just isn’t enough content to keep people playing it, it’ll be chewed up and spat out with people whinging for a BC xpac in no time.

More power to the people who want to play that version of the game, but frankly, been there, done that.

Valid but people have been chewing through content since the games initial launch. That isn’t new and people still do that to this day.

Personally i don’t think we ran out of content and people are displeased. wait wait wait. My personal outlook on wow right now is just class design sucks for me and the specs i like to play. Ive said this before.

Bring back single minded fury ( love 1 handers)

COMBAT ROGUE!!! slice and dice be a thing again.

Life will be complete for me.

I really hope the op is jokeing here.

Looking at how Runescape Classic was more popular then Runescape. Hard to say.

But when they decided to exit classic and add content for that version and renaming to Runescape oldschool. I think WoW Classic will do quite well, but for a limited time.

joking about what?

I don’t think they will add on. TBH. But my hope is bring back some things from classic to retail.

I did get a beta invite so I am testing it out a bit though.

Yep i agree im seeing this in my head a 14 year old content vs a few months old content that is BFA and retail still getting future expansions im just not seeing how classic will ever take over retail.

i dont think i would of played it even if i did. I am already mentally preparing for the grind.

I can definitely see it getting old quick, but the general ‘world first’ design philosophy of classic might raise some interesting discussion. I doubt I’ll get all that much out of it, but I would love to see some of those old, ‘outdated’ ideas reincorporated into the modern game.

That’ll be really weird. If that’s the case then blizz doesn’t need to make new expansion anymore. Just re-release old stuff but still make same amount of money with no investment. Though it’s very very unlikely to be real. Because if it does why doesn’t everyone doing it. It’s basically a corporate pipe dream.
