Does this helm necessarily have to be BiS throughout TBC? Just saying, it’s kind of awkward that it it’s still BiS. Not saying I want it to be nerfed or anything, but rather that I’d like Feral Cats to be given an incentive to wear something new provided by the new expansion rather than wear a Wolfshead Helm at all times.
In before anyone says, “You’re not forced to wear it.” I realize that, but in the spirit of #SomeChanges and the possiblity that Blizzard recognizes things like the Drums meta, surely they can spot aspects like how the Wolfshead Helm is still BiS for Feral Druids in an expansion where such an item should be outdated.
They changed Thunderfury, for instance, or Luffa, and so many other items; thereby incentivizing the use of so many other items that would be made available in TBC. So why not do something about Wolfshead helm.
Again, not necessarily a nerf, but maybea new TBC Leatherworking pattern? Something that does exactly what the Wolfshead Helm does, but has some gem slots and upgraded stats.

My shaman has scarab brooch which is bis on many fights in tbc and even wotlk
Kt trinkets are bis vs demons in tbc
Just accept the fact that classic items are good

Wolfshead might technically be bis but I think you can drop it pretty early if you want. Wastewalker looks like a very good set, and 2 piece t4 has an energy proc.
A level 40 blue though?

Ya bros just whine about everything. We already got retail TBC may as well move it from the top of the dumpster to the bottom.

Level and color have nothing to do with how good an item is

I saw someone make a good point about wolfshead the other day.
Just make it a legendary. Don’t change the stats or anything else, just make it an orange. All of a sudden no more complaints and every druid is wearing their wolf head lol

I supposed level and color are arbitrary designs in a sense, there’s no random rolled items in Classic WoW so every item was made with a purpose. You got me there bud!
Naxx gear could be all White items if they wanted.
A level 40 Legendary would be cool… But not enough for me personally to want to wear it to level 70+
Maybe if it had a meta socket…

Wolf head gets outpaced in t5, Esp if you can get a staff of Natural Fury.
Or it’s part of an upgrade. You take it into BC and there’s an upgrade pattern that gives it gems slots and a higher item level.
On some private servers (even in some of my own tests with full T5 level gear/offset pieces available) the wolfshead is not categorically and irrefutably beating a capable meta gem helm. It seems to matter a lot based on crits and OOC procs from test to test so it would require hundreds more tests that are further categorized by “crit-heavy runs” and “ooc proc heavy runs” and “crit/proc-light” runs using both wolfshead or a meta-gem. Meaning I can’t say with certainty either way yet but so far, at least, the differences in performance do not seem astronomical if even noticeable.
However it is notable in and of itself that the wolfshead is able to be “par” with T5 level gear. So it definitely still needs some theorycraft beyond that which I am capable of or want to bother with doing beyond hitting a dummy a lot with recount active.
I’m also still, at the same time, learning to optimize the “new” rotation so there’s variance there too. There’s a lot of work to be done but we have time.

Just give cats white hits a chance to regen energy.
It’s elegant, you can play around with it to adjust its impact and it easily solves the problem. Make it a level 61 skill. Or add it to a talent
Done
Tier 4 2 piece set bonus is exactly what you suggest, a chance on melee to gain 20 energy (the 4 piece bonus is garbage); which you know we’re going to be taking as well.
Power shifting is just a core part of how Feral DPS plays that the Wolfshead effect makes it extremely hard to replace.

With out it your dps is not viable. Using it does not put you in a great dps position… but not using it makes you a carry
Are you referring to Wolfshead or power shifting in general? I haven’t played Feral in TBC but I believe you can still be viable without using Wolfshead.
Not using Wolfshead is like having an on-use trinket you never use.
Not power shifting is like a Warrior not using Berserker Stance, you’re completely disregarding a core tool of your class.

Power shifting in and of itself seems intended by the very nature of the existence of furor, and to a lesser degree, the wolfshead helm itself, so I agree with this.
Not powershifting is basically just not doing what is probably the intended rotation in the first place.
The only thing in contention for this particular thread, is the dominance of the wolfshead helm item in particular throughout the TBC expansion.

I personally kinda like these unique interactions and feel it adds a little more flavor to the game as opposed to just: new tier, replace every piece of gear, rinse, and repeat

I agree, I feel like someone hide all these powershifting things in for Druid, Like Staff of Natural Fury in TBC.

Not terribly relevant. You’re gonna be in bear or moonkin form anyway, not kitty. Maybe tree, if you hate yourself.

Something has to be BIS. And there are a lot of slots, and a lot of subspecs: 30 subspecs in Vanilla.
You want to change TBC, to make every one of those 200+ BIS slot items be new to TBC?

You may already have your wish because according to another thread it’s kinda bunk. Go look.
