Would love to know what the future of these realms is as well.
The obvious assumption would be that it would follow the pattern of the “original Classic” realms, but I could also see them doing only Vanilla > TBC > Wrath, but that would either mean indefinite Wrath or a forced wipe/restart after Wrath which never made sense to me since long term investment into an ephemeral character removes any motivation for me (and I would assume others) to play.
It could be that they’re going to break off Era realms as they progress, like adding TBC Era at the launch of Wrath and Wrath Era at the end of the cycle. But it’s all just complete speculation.
I truly believe they don’t know exactly what they’re going to do and that’s why they haven’t announced it. I think they’re basically running experiments to see what people like and what’s popular (e.g. what’s keeping subs and people spending in the shop) and to try to cater to that.
Right… hence the post. I believe they will do Wrath again in some way. Not sure whether they will keep cycling through “classic” experiences of these old expansions, or do SoD style seasonal experiences.
I really hope they go to wrath and stop there, leaving a permanent wrath server up.
But then they would probably need to do a permy tbc server as well.
And at that point, they are splitting the classic player base up into thirds and that isnt good either, so im not really sure what the correct business decision is, except maybe to only keep a permy vanilla server like they have been doing.
Man I doubt it. And I doubt we get a permanent version of anniversary bc classic or a permanent version of anniversary wrath classic era server either. Because blizzard doesn’t care about us.
If this is true - which I also suspect - it somewhat defies its own purpose, as many, among them myself) won’t play on the anniversary servers before they know where we’re going to end up.
More choices would mean more total time spent in WoW, so not as great a split. Plus it would make some stay or come back that otherwise would not play at all.
So in short I’d like: Permanent TBC and Wrath servers, and both in a HC edition aswell to augment the existing Era servers.
I think wrath was fine before dungeon finder. If they can keep gold buying and level boosting out with real money in particular, and you actually have to work for your stuff like the old days, then I don’t see an issue.
Wrath was the end of classic for me. Any expansion after that is just a nostalgia rush at best.
Maybe these anniversary expansions might possibly define classic a little more. Classic is the nostalgia rush. Where as anniversary is a guaranteed permanent option once the expansion passes and moves on into the next one.
However, with little information, and me just not trusting blizzard. I won’t play unless we get a permanent wrath classic era server. I wanted that so badly. And they gave me the middle finger.
Most people liked wrath also. Never forget putting more time into wrath than any other expansion released before or since. It was the best. So if I have to drag myself along into anniversary wrath classic when it comes only to be told that there are no permanent wrath classic servers available again. I am just not going to play. I already did that. And I truly feel like I wasted all that time from 2019-2023 for nothing.
