Witcher type rp?

Hello all, just trying to find someone willing to be my Witcher! I have tried on MG, but no nibbles. :disappointed_relieved:

Here is the post I used on MG forums. Hopefully I will find someone here.

I have in mind to give a Witcher vibe for an rp set in Azeroth. It doesn’t have to follow the Witcher story exactly, as I would prefer it be WOW oriented. Any ideas on how to do this without being silly?

I think for the Witcher himself, a DK would suit rather well as a class, though paladin would as well. A human can be made to look like Geralt quite easily with the white hair and the smaller ponytail or just the straight long white hair.

I would love to create a Yennifer, and I am thinking Void elf mage. She will be leveled as Arcane and using the TRP3 to advance her story.

What I am looking for is a person to play the role of Geralt. Familiarity with the Witcher series is highly recommended. I like the way that Henry Cavil portrays him in the Netflix series!

If you are interested and want to try this, reply here. I am on Pacific Time zone and willing to play anytime in afternoons and into the wee hours. A dedicated rper would be great.

Brainstorming the idea here would be good to set the right mood and make sure we are compatible, or I can add you to discord or battlenet if you agree to meet in game first to discuss things.

Thanks for any comments to help me set this up.

What I am hoping to find is more of the chemistry and fun that occurs between Yennifer and Geralt. He is supposed to be a cold blooded killer, and he does so with a certain flair! His emotions are intriguing, he is created to destroy evil things. But he is human enough to need gold to survive. Hence the mercenary outlook.

So to fill out her story a bit. I am going to leave her as a Sindorei forced out of Silvermoon because of her activities using the Dark energy called the Void. She was a noble born, with both parents Magisters, so her talents are good. But she has trouble with containing the chaos that is the Void. She needs a sympathetic teacher as well as some friends who will support her plan of becoming an Arch mage some day.

I have her TRP3 backstory written, now all I need to find is a good rp guild.

I was waiting to start seeing witcher characters start popping around. Have fun with the RP.

Thanks, Maldreth! I am looking forward to it. Though so far, not many seem to be interested.

Too busy killing monsters, but good luck! I hope you get what you’re looking for.

I have 120’s running around, but I have no interest in the current content. My love of rp takes precedence over all of that.

I have been playing Classic, but for some reason, not many rp in CLassic. It’s a shame, really, because there is so much to see and do that lends itself to companionship and building character.

I am still looking and have a Yenifer on MG as well, but so far I am striking out. I am patient, so hope that some intrigued rper will see this as an opportunity to really do some great rp, and enjoy the journey.

I used to, when I had finished the game in fall of '18 I was able to switch the guild theme to a band of monsterhunters. It didn’t last but a few months before it gravitated back to the Wolf Cult theme, but it was quite fun and I still keep my own character quite Geralt inspired. Pumped when I heard Netflix was working on a series, so I went on to read the books while I waited, and I’m on to Blood of Elves now.

Think you’ll find the trouble is most people would rather create their own characters and stories rather than copycat someone else’s work. Then there’s the Blizzard copyright name nerf bat

I suppose it is kind of lame to try and create a similar character. I am not going to find anyone willing to do this, which is a shame, as I really like the idea.

I am not making her exatly like Yennefer, but more just a misfit who is working on getting accepted and better at being a mage.

As for the Witcher, its just a way to make your character a loner who just needs someone to love. I see the Geralt theme a lot in rp, even though the people do not call him a Witcher.

I do not expect an exact copy either. I am more into the character type, and I have to admit a certain crush on Henry Cavil. Just a fantasy I guess.

Than just keep at it. If it’s something you wanna play don’t get discouraged. I’m sure you will find someone that will either wanna play your Geralt or just interact with your Yenn.

Also you may wanna just try bringing your Yenn into other folks rp. Like asking yourself “If Yennifer were here and in this situation, how do you think she would react/behave?” and go from there.

There are very few original ideas anymore, my man.

Thanks, Rakham, I appreciate the thought. And you are right, in that there are few original ideas anymore.

All I am asking is for someone to join me in my quest to develop this character into an accepted mage of great power. She is not a perfect character, she has many flaws. Yennefer in the series is kind of an intriguing character study on her own.

Born with power, and half elven, yet with a physical limitation that makes her ugly. Treated poorly by parents and cast away like a slave. Brought into her powers by a compassionate older mage who teaches her how to contain her chaotic magic. I like the character progression here and want to play it out in Azeroth. It is perfectly in line with Yen’s backstory and the way I am playing her.

She is not an exact copy of Yennefer, and I am not looking for an exact copy of Geralt. The character type is what I am looking for. Anyone who is wishing to develop a powerful character who is deeply misunderstood, but is honorable and more vulnerable than he seems.

Come on people, I know there are rpers out there who try to mimic this. I am offering an opportunity to play out a fantasy and make a character who will be your greatest accomplishment.

It’s not all about me. I am just looking to rp this fun and in depth relationship. What are you afraid of? I do not expect perfection. I am far from it myself!

I could maybe be interested, though I’ve never seen/played/read the Witcher and I don’t really play human men (maybe a worgen though? then I can play a character I like to look at but he can still be a silver fox untransformed). But I do like the idea of preset plots and I’m a sucker for good character interaction. Expie characters don’t bother me, because 1) RP is a fun hobby and you can honestly do what u want and 2) Blizzard does it all the time so you’re technically abiding by Blizzard rules.

If the premise is just “monster hunting mercenary with a chip on his shoulder” then maybe I can find time to RP once or twice a week. I will warn I’m busy with the fanfic and will be going back to PVE hell. I do most of my Alliance RP on MG because it’s a bigger server.

I can certainly appreciate the appeal of characters like Yennefer and Geralt. They are both very interesting personalities, with both fierce independence and palpable chemistry. There is an obvious potential for great, character-driven roleplay there.

That said, I wouldn’t want to play as Geralt, per say. I just like making my own characters, and a Geralt insert into WoW just wouldn’t do it for me. But I see no issue with anyone making a character inspired from either Geralt or Yennifer (personality-wise, if not in name and appearance). Many others have done it, I’m sure. I would venture to say that most RP characters are inspired, at least in part, by something that their players have read or seen somewhere else before.

I may not be able to fit your Geralt criteria at present, but if you ever want another RP buddy, feel free to hit me up. Elgrim is a grim and power-hungry sorcerer, and something of an outcast himself. He could perhaps play the role of mentor to your Yennifar, or otherwise be a colleague, periodic traveling companion, or anything else that naturally evolves.

Thanks, Kailarra, for the encouragement. It’s quite easy to find information on the series, there are tons of You Tube presentations about it. I dont know if I can link one here because of silly forum restrictions. But I will try

It worked!!

Now to answer Elgrim, I would love to have a mentor for Yen. That is indeed part of the character progression. To me level is insignificant for rp, as it is strictly character driven.

There’s a whole lot of space between “truly original” and “blatant ripoff”.

Yep. Couldn’t agree more. A lot of space.

What a consenting witcher and consenting sorceress do in the privacy of their own roleplay is no business of ours.

Actually, the Witcher as a ‘class’ could quite easily be pulled off in WoW.

Alchemical potions used to explain some abilities, simple runic magic is already canon, weapons made of specific materials to affect specific creatures is already canon and you’ve got a broad selection to choose from.

A Hunter would actually be the closest fit to the Witcher archetype in terms of abilities, but it is not a perfect fit. Likewise a Demon Hunter could work quite well but might run into some problems outside of their RP circle? Warriors fit well but their lack of overt magical abilities could be a problem? Although so long as you’re not actively ripping the Witcher Signs, it could work that way. Death Knights also work and we’ve had Living Death Knights since the class was playable. Paladins would, ironically, work the best for trying to make a Witcher ‘build’, but thematically clash with the concept head-on.
