Wishlist for Hardcore/Classic?

I love Hardcore as it is, but I think a few tiny changes would make the game even better but still keeping the spirit of classic intact.

SoD changes are kind of a sledgehammer when Classic would only ever use a few tiny incisions.

Things that I would love:

  • New low and mid level profession recipes. Have it as it is now where the trainer will give you part of a set and the other parts would be rare or uncommon world or dungeon drops. They wouldn’t beat out the BiS options like a Whirlwind weapon, and the itemization would still not be great, but more options is always better and would help pad out stretches of missing itemization.
  • Paladin taunt is added as a 31 point option. Give it a 20 second cooldown. Put it on the same tier as Blessing of Sanctuary, but no requirements past 20 points in Protection.
  • Light DC protection – Your character’s default state will be an auto attack if already engaged in combat when you disconnect. No abilities, and casters are screwed because they would try to staff things down, but it’s better than nothing.

I actually can’t think of many more things that would add to the Classic experience. The only thing that I feel would add to the experience are economic in nature, and make more use of the items that are dropped throughout the world. But that falls back into profession recipes.

For paladin, I feel like spiritual attunement is also a huge QoL change.

But we wouldn’t ever see these types of changes on classic, as pernicious pally play is part and parcel of the proposition.

a 30 second bubble when dc, just need enough time time to get back is all, i quit HC because of 2 dcs in the lvl 40 range.

Actually I like your suggestions.
May I add that I’d like some of the recipes to complement or complete the sets where for instance you cannot find boots or cape in the colours fitting the rest of the set.

I’d like to see 2 further changes:

  • Mailbox at the inn in Darnassus
  • Cooking fire in the Trade Quarter in Stormwind.

You don’t need to make it auto-attack but just use the same script the game uses for your character when mind controlled. I think forcing casters to staff bash is just as likely to get them killed from a DC as if there was nothing implemented at all.

Agreed, and it’s something that isn’t needed. It’s fine that Paladins can’t be raid tanks, but they should at least be able to tank the 5-mans at the endgame a little better.

A closer mailbox would be fine, but the Inn is a little too close. I think Mailboxes being where they are add to the illusion of a populated city, so having it closer to south of the Darn AH would be a decent compromise.

Not really necessary when Cooking fires can be built and they actually start random interactions in my experience.

I like this. But it would be really funny if a Paladin sacrifices themselves on a party member and gets themselves killed if it’s not taken off the MC rotation LOL.

I think Darn is the only city with a single mail box, and has the only inn without a mail box. From a distance perspective, the inn and AH are further away in Darn than they are in IF, SW, TB, and Org, not sure about UC, it would probably be similar.

I would be okay with another mailbox in each of the districts in Darnassus, but I don’t want the current retail experience of a mailbox sitting across another.

Retail has gone overboard, even in WOTLK there are mailboxes everywhere, so agree with that, just think the inn makes sense and its probably further then other inns.

At low level Flint & Tinder and Simple Wood are forbiddingly expensive. I would be rich if I had just one Copper for all the times I’ve legged it to the Blue Recluse or Pig And Whistle just to train cooking - back again to learn more … rinse and repeat. Or taken the Tram to IF, where every Dwarven Brazier is a cooking fire.

Exactly. I agree, they added far too many mailboxes later.

And yes

at least of the Ally cities.
IF and SW have 4 each. (Inns + Park in SW - Inn, Tram, MIlitary Ward Inn and Bank in IF)

Undercity and Thunder Bluff each have one - but next to Bank and AH as they are close, also all trainters are close to here. And Org has 2 - the second one near the Drag - is well situated for profession trainers.

I would like to see slight tanking buffs to improve the number of tanks on HC. It’s most getting a group together for some of these dungeons. Making Pally and Bear tanks less miserable (without buffing their soloing) would really help that.

Neve going to happen, though.

I’m 95% sure that they won’t touch Hardcore.

But if they do, I would hope it’s very tiny. One of the big reasons I love HC is how it’s almost kind of sandboxy in how you can play a class. Change is anathema to Classic/HC, but I feel people would accept it if it’s less about QoL and more about enhancing existing gameplay.

I do feel they should not add any more tiers of content or add itemization at the high end though. At best, minor balance changes.

If they buffed Improved Cleave, would anyone take to Blizzard HQ and riot? I doubt it.

The reason there isn’t any real form of light DC protection via an auto attack or bubble or mind control script is because if they made it too good it’d be abused to save characters. They did change how DC works anyways, it’s not a lot, but it does log you out of the world faster when you do DC now.

I really want official challenges with titles that go with SSF. Stuff like not using any talents or not using any gear. Or an iron man challenge.

Oh! I have another one.

Add Newcomer Chat.

Flag characters that are the first ones on a Hardcore realm and put them in the Newcomer Chat. The Newcomer flag disappears and can’t be re-gained once they hit level 20.

To be a Mentor, one would need to be level 60 on any character, alive or dead.

Professions are something Blizzard did really poorly. Even when WoW was first released there were superior crafting systems in other games, and the original system has aged very, very poorly.

90% of patterns are just absolute trash. Not only are they worse than random greens, but so many patterns even through into the 20s are just white nonsense. I wonder if some of these things have ever been crafted in the history of WoW. Now, most of them don’t even ever get trained. Not even worth the paltry silver to train.

If there is one space in Classic that is overripe for an overhaul it’s crafting. I can’t see any real pushback from anyone but the weirdest of the weirdos.

Really wish they would implement something like the crafting system they had in dark ages, while it had its issues, the ability to build your own gear was amazing.

I just wish they balanced the professions so it wasn’t a requirement for everyone who wants to raid to go engineering. Most professions you can use 90% of the recipes even if you aren’t that profession but apparently with engineering you need to have engineering to use almost any of it.

I would like maybe a seasonal reset with challenges and community approved class balancing. I played for a couple months and finally managed ot get a character to 60. I would love to do it again on a fresh reset with a fresh economy and everyone starting from the bottom. I suggested reseting the servers or adding new ones awhile back but it semmed to universally disliked.
