I could be alone in this, but I really would enjoy it if Shadow Priest summoned a few more things.
The cold cosmic nothingness, and horrifying creatures from beyond that cause you to go insane. That’s what Shadow should be.
Now it’s kind of just, like… Here’s one spell to hurt someone’s mind, here’s a beam of mind magic, some random ghosts and a plague for some reason. You’re welcome.
Summoning more tentacles could be cool. Give us an AoE spender that summons a huge one (or a lot of smaller ones) that slap everything around it.
Summoning shas is also cool, and that’s one of the reasons I enjoy the Voidweaver PvP talents right now. With enough Shadow Word: Deaths, you can get 3-4 sha (if talented) munching on someone’s butt and absolutely destroying them.
We definitely don’t need to go full Demonology, but having the theme of allowing those scary things from beyond access into our realm to destroy our enemies is definitely one I can get behind.
A spell (Even if it’s mainly for PvP) to make everyone on a player’s screen turn into void monsters/remove player names and enable friendly fire would be amazing for the insanity aspect.
I don’t want to dookie on your idea at all, we all like what we like. But I have to say I personally do not like pet or minion classes myself. I also cannot stand (mostly a PvP issue granted) how many little NPCs and minions are in the game just clogging up the screen during combat as it is.
If they made these minions not so intrusive and didn’t give them nameplates or active management by the player, I wouldn’t care much though.
Oh okay I didnt see that sorry, I looked but guess I am blind. Yeah moving that to the pvp tree would be very bad, practically a must pick talent too so it would just reduce the amount of actual choices priests would have. No actual interrupt or form of cc should be in pvp talents, only slight alterations to cc can/should be there at most (ie evokers getting sleep walk with no cd as a pvp talent but sleep walk is available in the class tree).
I do want Silence to stay on the class tree but don’t want it to be use as an excuse to not put it i the class tree. However, I do like Raelcgos and Aneurysm idea of putting it in the class tree and just having cd reduction for Shadow. As for Body and Soul, I just wanted to improve the mobility with Void Step and Umbral Surge didn’t know how much it interacted with Disc and Holy.
As for the summon minions, I did had an idea:
Yogg-Saron’s Grasp
An AoE spell that causes tentacles to emerge from the ground, immobilizing all enemies within a radius and dealing shadow damage over time.
or
An AoE spender that slowly opens an eye beneath the targets dealing x damage and when once fully open disorienting all targets.
Class tree is where it should be these days since interrupts are basically all baseline (spare for a few).
Not a fan of shadow’s power being put into pets as the pet ai has continuously got worse and worse, not to mention things like our minions hitting through walls and whatnot; I would much rather see the class stand on its own merits rather than moving more power into uncontrollable npcs, and while we’re at it, just turn PI into a self buff only so we can stop being held hostage by an ability that’s used on other players.
If we’re going to be stuck hardcasting most of our kit (even our bloody dps cd’s short of PI) as shadow, we need to have ways to make space. If I’m going to be an immobile turret, I want to at least be able to limit the mobility of an enemy in some way to give time to hard cast without relying on some one else to control that player, or fish for premonition with fake casting.
On the pve side of things, having ANY instant mobility is a must, as well as having our healing specced dispel apply to curse or poison. There’s so many things that need to be adjusted, but a lot of these things are easy to re-introduce because the priest class has had these things in the past, but were removed for various reasons, yet those reasons seem to uniquely apply to priest alone while the majority of classes in the game were subject to a different set of design goals that allowed them to continuously collect more and more of everything.
Would love to see priest receive proper attention sooner rather than later, but I fear we’re going to be in the bin and the only things that will be changed are numbers rather than proper rebuild of the class because they’re hell-bent on keeping the insanity playstyle rather than revisiting older skills and playstyle from the past that were perfectly fine. Legion really was the point where I felt that priest started to see drastic and bad changes that have not improved the class in beneficial ways. Sure; Things like atonement healing for disc are neat, but once legion hit, we really started seeing things get hard pruned and reattached to other classes, and the doubling down on mechanics that just didn’t work or ‘work’ but are clunky. Seriously though, who thought that building shadow around an ability that you kill yourself with if you mess up or there’s lots of movement/downtime between phases/etc?
You know that you’ve been a long time shadow player when you can RP IRL by screaming into the abyss.
That’s already in place though.
Look in your settings and play around with them.
I have mine to only see enemy target nameplates and not showing pets and minions so my screen stays clean in both PvE and PvE with only the most important nameplates shown on screen.
Then I use my raid frames to see my groups health bars.
I have to admit though that during Cataclysm Firelands prior to getting the 2 set from Dragonsoul, I enjoyed playing the mini game to see how powerful I can get my Shadow Word: Death to hit and see my life chunk down to the point of nearly killing myself or actually succeed in doing so and stressing out my healers and keeping them on their toes lol.
Was a great mini game.
But once I got the 4 set in Dragon Soul, it was more fun to time my burst right with my Shadowfiend to absolutely wreak with 3 orb Mind Blast and Mind Spike while empowered by Dark Archangel.
Then take those into RBG’s and wreak face to the EFC was a very rewarding experience lol. Then top it all off with Dragonwrath Staff Legendarily was the chefs kiss lol.
-Give us back orbs. Insanity was a mistake, i’m sorry blizz, i know you’ve tried hard since legion to get it to work, but it just isnt. Save yourself (ironically) your sanity and scrap it
-Put more utility into core spells. Make Mind Flay: Insanity castable while moving, or Mind Spike: insanity instant cast
-Shadowy insight, silence, and Psychic link should be baseline. Absolute core abilities of the spec, and i shouldnt have to make a decision for them.
-Or move silence to the class tree. Allow shadow to have the option to reduce silence by 15 sec. making Silence a 1 min CD on the class tree…
-Move dispersion to the class tree. WE NEED A DEFENSIVE. Give it a different name or w/e, i don’t really care. But we need something more than just Desperate prayer…And it feels aweful having to use a pain supp on ourselves as disc…
-Re integrate shadow crashes DoT spread back into a single node…why they decided to split them into 2 nodes is beyond me.
-Make shadowy apparitions faster, and more of the overall theme of the spec. Summoning tendrils is neato, but i would rather have ghosts of myself be more of what to expect
-Give Shadow priests the ability to instant cast Flash heal, or give us a different type of self heal that doesn’t need to be cast. It feels so bad to stop DPS just to get off a single flash heal for the defensive bonus…
-OR, Make mind Spike have a chance to instant cast while channeling mind flay. either as part of the Mind Flay Spell, or a proc chance you can cast at instant speed that doesn’t interrupt the channel This would make our filler spell feel better and more impactful.
Not including bigger/rework ideas and keeping to things I think we might actually possibly have a very tiny chance to get, I would love blizzard if they would:
Buff renew base healing so it’s worth casting occasionally
Replace Everlasting Light (Heal heals more for less mana) with with our s3 two-piece as a talent (hitting someone with serenity or sanctify adds a renew to them). (Honestly, the only place anything buffing heal should be in our tree is directly above LWR since that’s the only time we ever cast Heal).
Swap Prismatic Echoes with Voice of Harmony in the talent tree
Make VoH a 1 point talent, and remove the HF/HN interaction. Increase POM healing 5%, and replace Benediction with Voice of Discord - a new 1-point talent that includes the HF/HN interaction split off from VoH. That way it’s in the ‘DPS’ path of the tree.
Epiphany gives you an extra charge of PoM instead of resetting the CD.
They definitely need to make it easier to keep dots on all targets considering SWP pain and VT are for procs and pyschlink and not for damage.
Also my Void Tendril pets STILL pull random enemies in dungeons that weren’t in combat. You’ll suddenly see a purple beam from a tentacle latching onto an enemy nobody pulled. Very embarrassing.
