Wishful Mage adjustments

Mage feels like an old version of a car compared to newer model shamans, druids, and warlocks that have up to date technology. These are very simple changes in current skills that will make the mage more fun and feel more like a classical fantasy mage.

  1. Blink - 40 yards forward, instead of 20, and removes focus in combat. Outside of combat, mage can point where to blink to, including vertically.
  2. Ice Block - able to move (not cast) and heals 10% HP for 10 secs until full, but only if not moving. Moving will cancel each second of healing. I don’t understand the point of this skill in current form as it just delays being killed by 10 seconds. Being able to heal once every 4 minutes is hardly controversial!
  3. Prismatic Barrier - 25% of max HP, instead of 20%.
  4. Frost Nova - knocks everyone away 20 yards prior to freezing. Mages should have a way to repel, not just run all the time.
  5. Frost Bolt (frost mage) and Arcane Blast (arcane mage) - instant cast with 1.9 and 2.1 seconds CD, respectively. (I don’t know what the fire mage equivalent skill is)
  6. Slow Fall changed to Levitate - allows mages to slow fall and also to walk or run over water.
  7. One new spell - instantly convert 50% of current mana to HP with 3 minute CD.

Interesting ideas, but in my opinion, a couple wont really fit.

  1. Perhaps intead make Shimmer with Blinks cc removal and Cauterizing Blink at a 9% hp over 3s heal baseline.
  2. Really just needs a heal added, as it wouldn’t feel right being able to move unless a rename to Frozen Skin or something.
  3. Liking this.
  4. Maybe not a knockback, but a much higher damage threashold.
  5. How would the rotations change to accomodate the removal of cast times?
  6. Maybe more like DH’s wings where you can change falling direction mid fall.
  7. Not needed with the above listed ideas.

I do miss the glyph that extended blink range

You guys suppose it’s too much to just ask for something as simple as making crit important to fire again?

I could rant about losing our combustion DoT and all the great gameplay surrounding it for hours on end every day, but fire just feels awful outside of orange arcane power with how crit’s been shoved to the side for so long. Hell, it feels terrible during combustion without Lucid Dreams’ major effect.

I can’t even stand to look at my favorite spec anymore.

I didn’t play fire enough to get a wish list (but having Phoenix Flames baseline would be one).

For frost, I would wish for a solution to the long-time problem of proc munching. If you cast a FoF icicle that’s going to munch, let it do double-damage or something.

Arcane … oh my sweet spec-of-choice … if I would wish ANYTHING for arcane it would be:

  • Arcane Orb baseline - It made slight sense when missiles were a proc for this to be a top tier talent. Now, it makes absolutely NO sense as it’s just a charge generator for a barrage and some AoE damage. Frozen Orb is MUCH more impacting for frost mages and it’s baseline. It makes NO SENSE for this spell to be a top tier talent now.

  • AoE - While I know it’s iconic to arcane mages, Arcane Explosion has to go. Buff nether tempest to make it viable or come up with something new (maybe a spray of arcane missiles that hit multiple targets). Arcane Mages are the only caster that have to get up in someone’s face to do decent AoE damage. Makes no sense.

  • Missiles - Missiles WERE the fun part of arcane. You could stack em, plan when to use them, build your whole attack around them. Now they’re a mana conservation tool and arcane mages are left to one-button-spam their damage. Make missiles important again!

… I could keep going … Slipstream should be baseline, talents need realignment so that ST and AoE talents aren’t competing …

BfA just makes me miss Legion. I hate this bloody expansion.

I just want to be able to cast while moving.

Play fire. -_-

That last 30% is pure joy. I want freedom for all caster specs! At least in pve.

Being nonviable unless there was a good Crit trinket isn’t good design.

I understand that combustion won’t be coming back as a DoT, as much as I enjoyed it. The primary point of my post was that fire just isn’t fun in its current state of being intentionally crit-deprived.

I think it’s unintentional. Blizzard is just ignorant of how specs actually work and scale with secondary stats. They did, after all, buff Mastery for Frost when Mastery was already such a strong stat that it caused Frost’s best ST setup to ignore Ice Lance procs entirely. Just gotta wait until they accidentally fix Crit by giving us something ridiculous that scales well with the stat I guess.
