I wish there was a class that just wielded a giant club and beat the crap out of stuff.
I got tired of warlock so I made a warrior dps alt. (arms) turned out, a big part of their dps is dots. (bleeds) The fault is on me, I should have researched stuff more. I just assumed warrior meant beat stuff up with a giant weapon.
Is there any class/spec that is just a damage spec, no dots, just big hits and does reasonable DPS? I don't need bleeding edge top of the line, I just don't want to be lower than the tank on the dps chart.
Thanks,
- P
Try Fury! :D
Also, the main part of Arms atm is NOT the bleeds. You want very little mastery.

Ret Paladin, Havoc DH and Fury warriors all have their damage rolled up front.
DoTs mechanically are important for a lot of reasons, which is why the "big stick class" of the Warrior still does them.
If you ONLY did damage when you connected with an ability and NEVER any damage over time, you would be a less good class overall (or the burst potential would be too swingy to be balanced easily?)
Maybe I'm a terrible warrior but is the bleed damage really significantly that much of your overall damage that it ruins the class fantasy? I've never felt like I'm bleeding someone out as Arms, I always feel like I just bashed them to death with my big sticks.

Havoc DH is probably what you want. Only a single, very short dot IF you choose to talent into it. And its not even a mandatory op talent.
Your gameplay essentially revolves around using a few different abilities to generate fury, and then dumping it on big Chaos Strikes or Annihilates. Outside of that, you do hit eye beam on cooldown, and blade dance on cooldown as well if you pick blade dance talents.
But yeah more of your rotation is actually about building your resource with stuff like immo aura, vengeful retreat, felblade, demon's bite, all of that. The actual damage part is very much a "Mostly spam big hits with my weapons" thing.

The Warrior, at its core, is all about beating stuff up with giant weapons. If one active bleed ability is enough for you to stay away from Arms, I would imagine that 'your only option' would be Fury. The rest of the melee class specializations have DoT abilities, transformations and magical abilities.
Arms is brute force. Rend is mostly a filler spell
Fury may be what you're looking for.

You literally do nothing to cause the bleed as it's just a passive to make mastery not suck donkey dicks. The gameplay is all in the big hits though. You don't even spec into Rend (at least for PvE) because Skullsplitter is better.
If some is good more is better. Switch to Fury and have TWO big clubs.
Sorry, but even 1 auto-applied dot is to many. I'm totally sick o them.
Since the warrior is already leveled, fury is the logical thing to try. If that doesn't pan out, Havoc DH will be next on the list.
It looks like subtlety rogues don't use dots.
At least I have a plan, thats half the battle. :)

But why? Honestly how does the fact that "he's bleeding because I hit him Extremely Hard" mess with the class fantasy of being a person who only hits things very hard?
Well, WW monk doesn't carry a big club, but our damage is almost entirely physical (which pairs real great with my racial that increases magic damage -_-;) and the closest we come to a dot is Touch of Karma which reflects target's damage back for six seconds. (Don't think Touch of Death really counts as a dot? It does all its damage at once after eight seconds. But I won't argue if someone says it is).

Technically, yeah, but it's all passive. Nobody picks Rend. Nothing in our rotation is actually about Dots.

It doesn't sound like a class fantasy at all, he just doesn't want to use the mechanic anymore.
It sounds like gameplay reasons.
I like whacking stuff with my tauren arms warrior when I am fed up with ranged dps.

The problem is even with very little mastery its still doing like 23%+ of your damage.

Yes it is lol, a big part is keeping deep wounds up.

for me its the fact that its doing such a sizable amount of damage, i would rather that damage be distributed back into the strength of my use abilities. I want a harder hitting MS, Harder hitting slam, not a weaker slam and a stronger dot.
Outlaw Rogue is all direct damage. No massive hits really mostly consistent hits for 10-20k.
Subtlety Rogue has 1 DoT, but you use it for the 15% damage taken buff and you do massive 50k+ crits with Eviscerate.
Just stay away from Assassination because like 60% of its damage is DoT.

Which you achieve by hitting the big critting smash button.

Play fury. Or outlaw rogue. Havoc DH, ret pally, or get over it, run double EP, and play arms.

Its not a fantasy thing. I just want something that isn't a dot. :)
